Olympics 2024

Whoever you think will win but it’s hard to look past Gustavo at 9/1

A few months ago I visited Paris for an interview with Alexis Sablone. We talked about her Olympic kit design, the growth in women’s skateboarding over the past five years, and I got to surprise her with the knowledge of having a modern-day favourite of a video part.

It was a very surreal and fun experience. Alexis had got off of a red-eye flight literally an hour beforehand but was such a champ and a pleasure to talk to.

(Might be paywalled but possibly viewable as a complimentary article.)

Does this mean the bookies have got Keegan Palmer(?) as favourite?

Dunno who half these Michael Fabricants even are.

Yer he is. Me neither, how did Andy Mac even get there ahhaha

Fucking hell, I swear I’ve heard of 2 of them.
Switched to the street contenders and I’ve heard of all but 2, phewf.

I worked quite a bit on the qualifier series and on a small chunk of Paris, dealing with the whole rings behemoth is exhausting. I’m out of this thread til it’s done I think…

I’ve set up Discovery+ so think I get to watch everything now.

The street skateboarding is all on tomorrow so place your bets quick.

Seeing hie referred to in this way is just hilarious:

Still, he’s probably about as British as Sky Brown.

Sky’s dad is British. So she heard a real British accent everyday growing up and would have been around British culture daily, more than Andy Mac I’d imagine.

Edit: Also heard on the news yesterday that there are loads of unsold tickets for most Olympic events still. IIRC you couldn’t get a ticket for love or money during the London ones? Are the French just not bothered?

Funny CMOAC, LBC Radio asked me to go on the day it was announced Andy Mac was going to be in the Olympics. Had to be politely frank in the response to that one.

No way! Why not??

Yeah I know, I’d still say she’s much more American than British but that ship sailed long ago and it’s not something I particularly care about.

Oh yeah, but on different levels of how ‘British’ they are I’d say she wins. She has the same Britishness level as Lance Mountain who has a British dad. Isn’t Gino’s mum British too?

Chris Haslam too, I believe. I think his mum is from Castleford which funnily enough is near mine and @anonymity’s neck of the woods? (Also where the forum meet up was at the indoor park years back.)

With the LBC thing, I nearly did go on as I thought it was worth talking about how Sky Brown and Andy Mac being the Olympic candidates somewhat underscores the quality of funding and facilities here, in comparison to other countries, in that the Britain hasn’t produced an Olympic candidate who is just an upcoming skater, leading to the representatives being half-American and it seeming a little dubious as discussed here.

Slightly worried this might comes across slightly Brexity…

I voted remain, I swear.

Was that Appleyard? I think Mike Rusczyk too, he mentioned Chesterfield in a convo in Manolo bar ha.

Gifted Hater’s dad is English, should’ve given him a shot

I believe GH is a pure breed. Both parents.

Jeff pang’s mum is English.

There is Lola who is an actual homegrown representative this time round as well as the two others.
