So much of the debate about whether skating should be in the Olympics (or any other ‘competition’ feels redundant. The people gatekeeping it seem to be mainly old farts who want it to be like Trilogy forever, ignoring the fact that we’re all washed up Michael Fabricants in our 30’s, 40’s or 50’s while female skaters in their teens get to have a global platform which we never had. Yeah, I’d like a tee.

Just want to clarify the IBF (one of the professional boxing associations) has nothing to do with this, and it’s it IBA, the Russian-chaired amateur boxing association that’s done all this stuff about ambiguous gender testing.
Funnily enough the dispute about her gender started the day after she beat an at the time undefeated Russian boxer.

I kinda disagree.
I don’t think age has anything to do with it.
Whilst there, the crew I was with were 20s to 50s. There were a couple of people who never thought they’d be at something like this and after lots of questions about the scoring, got really into it and enjoyed it.
Then again, there are a lot of people from where I am from in the same age bracket who literally couldn’t give a shit.
I’m not sure any are anti-Olympics anymore - in the ways brands like Consolidated used to push - they just let people do their thing.
On the old folk side - I feel like this sort of very accessible world of skateboarding allows those lot who perhaps don’t have the chance to drive to Derby once a year to keep that fire stoked, y’know?
Of course, there are going to be some outliers to all this but I don’t particularly think age is a factor.
I really just think it comes down moreso to what you are into or how easily you can access seeing good skateboarding.

Tony Hawk seems to have changed his tune a little. He was quoted before saying they needed us more than ‘we’ needed them.

Skateboarding shouldn’t be in the Olympics because it’s not a sport, but it’s definitely not at the bottom of the shouldn’t be in the Olympic list by any means.

- Dressage
- Anything else with horses
- Artistic swimming
- Rythmic gymnastics
- Breakdancing
Basically anything that’s a perfomance is more than iffy.

I thought that even the pre-Olympic camps have used this line forever. Becaue they do.
Wait, are you saying that Hawk has been anti-Olympics? I’m sure Hawk has been pro skating being in the Olympics since day one? He’s been one of the biggest advocate of it. I’m sure he says the right things to all sides of the argument but ultimately has always pushed for it. Wasn’t he a part of it being demonstration/exhibition sport to get to the Olympics?
It really is how it is, for bronze metal, and it’s actually seen as a good thing as it wears uniquely

The medals are made with left over scraps from when the Eiffel Tower was refurbished. Which is meant to make them unique and interesting to the Paris Olympics. I wonder if that’s had an unforeseen effect on some of them? As some will be made with better scraps than others?
