Me too, but perhaps I’m projecting myself in this situation too much.

There needs to be a programme for skateboarders getting let go from the industry with no place to go, just like they do for armed forces… oh wait?

It’s what youtubers do

The problem there is that it’s not entirely ever going to be ‘what went on’.
I’m not even talking about this situation, but in being let go from any job, anywhere.
The reason being that this video is only one side (And yes, I thought it was quite fair throughout). And the other side will either stay silent or sit by a very simple one liner as the the decision.

But yeah, the endless speculation is wild.

Don Brown on Brain Drain next. Wonder when it was recorded…

So Wes Kremer seemingly now on Es.

Wes, Wade, TJ, Aimu.

It’s only a problem if there are some important facts missing or there’s some kind of deception going on. Everyone knows it’s just his viewpoint.

Oh well, it’s done now and we’ll have to see what decisions they make in future.

Wes is one of the best to do it but I don’t see how he’d help them sell more shoes than Tom Asta. He’s basically the complete opposite in terms of visibility

I can’t sit through another Don Brown interview

Also pretty pointless now since last week.

This would be the absolute best time for a Don Brown interview, but if he’s just going, ‘Yep, things are carrying on as normal with the Nidecker people’ it’ll be a bit of a shame.

The Asta treatment is not just unethical but bordering on illegal. Had he not signed the contract change in good faith then I feel like any half decent employment lawyer could have done something for him. Mind you, who knows what work contracts are like in the states. Sucks that he is such a decent guy, not even pushy about late pay and just gets bent over. Happens far too much to the good ones.

Sounds to me like everyone immediately involved was working together in good faith

Feels like the days of every single pro having a full house of sponsors (board/shoe/clothing/energy drink) are becoming a thing of the past.

Even for some of the best dudes it now feels like a case of pick 2. For those who can, being active on social/YouTube is probably a good way to make up the income.

I rocked Sole Tech shoes only for over 20 years but I stopped doing that when their distribution here got terrible, when it became really hard or impossible to get their shoes, about 5 years ago.

I’d happily buy a Tom Asta board but I don’t skate twin tails.

I think his video was really respectful and outlining the fact that people are left in the dark when decisions are made for them. It’s harsh but it is necessary if a brand has a new vision. Would be cool for companies to be a bit more respectful to people that have put the work in and have been ambassadors for the brand, a good send off and severance package.
Being a new YTer, Asta had to put out a statement, it was just that, no clickbait “this is the video I didn’t want to make, goodbye cruel world” etc. The amount of comments asking what’s happening would have been crazy otherwise so, respect for putting it out there.
I rate Asta.
