This guy on the Session computer game server has offered me a place to stay for a couple of weeks in Paris. We were talking about le dome and he was telling me about the history of it. It seems like a great opportunity, bit nervous as have never met the guy but he seems really sound. Will probably speak on the phone to him first.

Sorry, it’s one of the first things that popped into my head on seeing your post.
At least you’re in contact with the guy. I once booked a flight to SF to go and stay with some ‘friends’ of someone I only vaguely knew. I was assured on a number of occasions that everything was cool. I suppose I really should have checked properly. I got the address sent them a post card telling them when I’d be arriving and just got on a plane with a board and a day/ weekend backpack.
I got to SF, got in a taxi, found the apartment. I spent all day waiting for someone to come home. They eventually did but as it turns out they had no idea who I was or what I was doing at their place. It also transpired that they knew the ‘friend’ back in the UK even less than I did. They did say I could stay though. Only thing was that they all turned out to be heavily into crack.
So I bailed and slept at Ocean Beach for a couple of nights until I managed to get in contact with some friends of friends back home. Bearing in mind that this was pre cell phones and internet . They sorted me out with one of their SF based mates home number and I called him. He said hop in a cab and come over. He was super cool and I got to stay with him for a couple of months. We ended up road tripping up and down the California coast for three weeks together after that. Good times were had. Even if things go tits up they can still work out.

Glad it worked out in the end. That trip sounds so good, would love to go to California. I am a bit wary to be honest. Thinking of trying to get a cheap air bnb, and then I can skate with this guy but still have a place to chill on my own.

Yeah, it was fun, not very well planned but that was balanced out by youthful optimism and a degree of naivety.
I did a bunch more,(not much) better organised, trips back there over the following decade. SF / Bay Area most of the time. I did spend nearly a year on and off in Santa Cruz, (more on than off) which was great.
Just to get that seat of the pants feeling back though I did a hitchhiking trip from Santa Cruz up to Oregon that had more than it’s fair share of hairy moments as you can probably imagine. In retrospect, it was all good fun though.

Shit that was me, I meant to post after saying this but forgot: I got a Google ads violation flagged on your post. Although they detect these things automatically the only thing I could find offensive was the f bomb so I edited it and requested a re- review from Google.
The brain can’t word change was due to Google ads violation as well.
So norry, no conspiracy theory here, just trying to get pages clean enough for Google ads to work
