You’ve seen the videos , it is what it is .
I went to the Berlin leg of CPH and I thought it was a blast , but I didn’t follow everyone around constantly.
Went to some of the organised stuff then went off and did my own stuff where the spots were empty and got a good skate in with other crews that wanted a chill skate . Some pros did the same .
Pick and choose a bit of madness , booze and partying then sightseeing the sightseeing and chilled skating.
There’s loads of age ranges there , I never felt like an old git out of place.
Remember it’s a load of skaters from all over the world turning up to party , so can be a melting pot of all sorts.
Do it before you really get older and more stubborn
I am not an events/contest fan, never have been. I’m way too antisocial for that. I prefer a session with a handful of close friends.
I don’t even get much out of seeing amazing skating in a contest setting. I have always got more out of skateboarding when it’s just a bunch of mates skating together.
After decades of skating alone, I really like skating with friends.
Literally the only skate event I’ve felt completely comfortable at in the last 10 years was dadlands.
Every other one I’ve been to I’ve had to leave after half an hour or it was a piss up and I got drunker than everyone else because I couldn’t handle being there without getting wankered.
Yeah, there’s all sorts of people. It’s like going to a festival but without all the shit boring music. It’s just the fun parts, and it’s in a lovely city and there are bikes just lying around all over the place.
Seen some Lurpivs in the wild.
Also Dadlands is rad, got my hotel sorted already. Looking forward to it!
Anyone reading can you do me a solid, click on here and vote Mija the Mako, thanks:
Haha, I took my daughter who then left me on my own when a daughter of another skater was like ‘let’s go skate!’. Daughter also dropped in on the bigger ramp in the shop, no messing about. FFS I was a little hesitant….
Loved it, great day.
Done
Thanks everyone! At a do for my daughters swim club, but she’s ended up with a medal anyway so don’t feel too bad about my failure to secure a consolation prize through nefarious means.
This is where I struggled last year, plus with the added covid afterbangs of shit social self confidence and 100% WFH, talking to people face to face was a mess - still munge my words now haha.
Something I’ve wonder for a while is an ally oop grind is so on transition, when it is not so on a ledge?
Ie this is an allyoop grind on transition
Whereas on a ledge it’s just a b/s180 sw 5050,
And and the gillete/westgate 180 5050’s are an allyoop on a ledge?
Do you want to start a war?
Not on a Sunday morning!
Knew that would cause tension.
Can you focus on the 180/allyoop part🫣
It’s a Gonz grind on a ledge. I recently started messing with those and they are so hard.
I guess it’s cos alley oop was invented on transition and the way you skate across a ramp is different to the direct angle you hit a ledge at? Like doing an alley oop transition trick feels very different to doing the same kinda trick over say, a flat hip.
ID required in form of 30 plus passport or proof of child benefit this year
How is it ally oop and how is it a switch fifty? What he’s doing is just a 180 into a fakie fifty surely?
I thought it was the carve in that made it alley oop, no? As for switch 50 though… nah that’s fakie surely.
www.sidewalkmag.com has officially gone.
I went on there last week to check some archival stuff, good timing!
Ive always heard it described as “the hard way” instead of alley oop for street
