Remember when their clothes had Bench written across the arse? Not seen the brand around for years, did the guys sell it and start that fake Japanese company Superdry? Not sure on that one but someone on here will know with out me getting my Google on.

I remember them being around in skate shops in the early to mid 90’s. My mate bought a coat from Hanley Rollersnakes - probably late ‘94 IIRC.

Hild, (James Holder), started Bench as a t shirt company. He initially ran little classified ads in mags around the late 80’s iirc. It got bigger and appeared in skate shops. I remember the logo changing in the early 90’s and then it disappeared for a while. That’s all I know for sure. Then I saw it pop up again and assumed someone had bought the name or something because when it came back it was in high street stores and had no connection with skateboarding or BMX as far as I could see. I’ve not seen it or given it a second thought for at least two decades and now, for some strange reason, someone has dug it up again.

Hild, chainring grinding on the cover of Invert in ‘89.

Then he went on to making a fortune with some other dude churning out that SuperDry wackness.

Don’t want to get into it here but not quite. Also, he didn’t sell the Bench name - there’s more to that too.

Full story coming next year in a sensational new book…

Cool thought it was - intriguing thanks @Scurbrampwoody and @buildafire :+1:

Has howies gone down that route? I remember looking at their website a while back and they marketing themselves to the Barbour / joules type folk £300 for a hoody type business. Had a look today and it’s seems to be reasonably priced mountain warehouse type stuff now.

Have I got my wires crossed, or did he do Headworx before Bench?

Bench fleece was practically mandatory for a couple of years

Used to be a Bench rep, after replying to a little piece in Phat.

Got any of those half button overshirts left?

Small. Fun. Pointlessly bad ledge but otherwise would be great if it was your local. The tiny hip was great.

I threw a temper tantrum because of the todddlers doing endless laps. Literally could not try anything by the end without properly endangering 2 year olds so I had to leave.

That’s how my skate went yesterday, except I’d didn’t throw a temper tantrum. I was freaking out because a mate’s kittens went missing and a cat from my neighborhood also went missing though. I tried a Hensley-inspired personal NBD, we’ll see if this materializes at some point.

Nice one, only 20 mins away so will make the effort one morning. Thanks!

I was trying to work out wtf was going on at the racecourse by my house (random loud music). Found it was a big tribute act thing.

The thing is happening right now. Look at these AI scam posts…there’s loads of them.

I read that as you had a flutter and your horse was called Random Loud Music.
Pretty good name.

It is. Probably already taken.

Quite clever, bit scary how easy it must be. Think there’s going to be a lot more of this

So are they AI generated/bots/scams because they all follow a similar sentence pattern and word count or something? If you hadn’t have said this, I’d have assumed they were legit.

Yeah the names look ok, don’t look too AI-y?
