Still down. Not looking good

Happy Mondays are playing here in August. How are they these days? Should I drop everything and see them or not see them and keep on liking their music? Ta!

big Slap forum fan.
the humour, the sniping, the gossip, the stories.

skateboarding has definitely shifted tone because of the opinions and ideas shared there

hope its just an admin thing

Personally always thought they were arseholes after seeing Shaun Ryder slap a woman in the audience for no reason when they performed on TFI Friday in the 90s, weren’t they also one of the reasons Factory went bust too? By being selfish arseholes again?

I wasn’t aware of all that, I just listen to their old stuff. Thanks.

Iirc I looked into what slap was run on and it was some horrific arcane software which must’ve been a nightmare to maintain. This was pre-UKSF though.

Edit: for the geeks out there (I’m thinking only @nav ) yeah it’s simplemachines (SMF), I did have like a mini forum running that a good few years back and it wasn’t easy.

No way did they end factory, they got the blame but it all got spunked on the hacienda

They were one of the few properly big bands they had, one messy album at the end yes, but Pills n thrills would have made factory a packet

Judge for yourself

Channel 4 had to have a 20 second delay on all live broadcasts after this

Id say go, if you like the tunes, they’re decent live, probably less shambolic these days. It’s great when you’re straight, yeah

me too, despite what i said earlier

Yep, Slap is arcane.

It’s not even one of the good arcane ones like PHPBB or vBulletin.

I wonder where skateboarding discourse would be if they’d slowly evolved Slap over the years to something a bit more modern.

I always thought it was strange that HighSpeed didn’t seem to value it more. Kind of the deformed sibling hidden in the attic of the Thrasher family. Slap must get shit loads of traffic and it has new banner ads that change often so it’s obviously valuable. Interesting to hear about the arcane/ancient infrastructure with that in mind.

Thanks pal!

I don’t go out much these days but I kinda want to see them live. Might well go.

Also bear in mind he looks like this these days which will probably be reflected in the performance

Hopefully drop Concerning Hobbits then

I’ve seen them twice, once at their absolute peak, they were all e’d up on stage, sweating buckets, rowetta grabbing shauns dick while he was singing with a tin in one hand and the lyrics in another, they wheeled Martin Hannet on in a shopping trolley (didn’t know who it was at the time)., bangin soundsystem, Donovan then 808 State as support… magnificent.

The second time was about 15+ years ago and the sound was terrible, i blame the Brixton academy for that, they were still off it but the vibe wasn’t there.

I think they’ve improved since then, but yeah shaun doesn’t look particularly fresh faced now

Last time I saw the Mondays was about 10ish years ago, the sound was good and the vibe was good, well at least until Shaun called Rowetta a slag and she stormed off the stage calling him a fucking arsehole.
Alan McGee was in the crowd (at a midweek gig in Sheffield, no less) and Paul Ryder was still around.
I’m going to see them at a fest this summer. I have no idea whether they’ll be any good

Slap still down. I’ve no idea what’s been going on skate gossip wise in the last few days. Is there anywhere else people get skate news?
