Pointless Topics

I remember reading about 9/11 as it was happening on tws.
PJ Ladd spam was crazy. Like constantly all tjhe time, always mentioning Jarvis cocker. Which only made sense when the vid came out.
Crailtap also had its own boards around the same time. Bit hit and miss.

I remember the TWS forums were mainly a vehicle for reports of Chad Muska’s untimely demise.

Kinda sucked when it also brought news of Tim Brauch’s actual demise.

There were a few different forums back around 2000. Vague memories of one on a Dyrdek backed skateboard.com

I was always a big fan of the Crailtap one before it went belly up with tech issues.

The Thrasher one was a mix between spam and a few barney types that pledged their mag allegiance into the realms of the internet superhighway.

iirc, I was the third user to get over a thousand posts and thus access to a magical forum called the gnar pad on one incarnation of Slap.

So much skate history lost like tears in the rain.

Remember guestbooks?

Only vaguely

I’m not sure who at my work is annoying me more… the manager who writes everything using AI and suffixes all posts/emails with a  emoji… or my colleague who adds haha after every message.

Uh oh. I’m massively guilty of that on here… I’ll make a conscious effort to change my ways.

Oh man. I used to lurk the DLX forum and pretend I was cool enough and then go out and bomb my little hill. Forgot about that.

That DLX site was actually great. Their little clips for up and comers were sick. Distinctly remember being stoked on a young Guru Khalsa.

They should train LLMs on old skate forums

Leaves me wondering about all this influencer stuff: wouldn’t it just be easier and less embarrassing to get a job?

I got into the skate internet during the Myspace era. Free Hosoi campaign was big at the time.

I was at uni (96 ish) and only skate sites around were dansworld and foundation (“candor will kill you”) and maybe fecalface which mentioned skating sometimes iirc

At uni the computers weren’t even on the internet, after they booted up you had to go to command line and run “tcpip” to get it going

I’ve often thought this. Must be such a grind doing it all.

‘Hey guys! I’ve found a way I can get a steady income and paid holiday!’

I feel I have to put a ‘Ha’ at the end of things otherwise certain people jump on it and argue some invalid point because they think on tiny part of of a post summerises my whole outlook. Sometimes that’s fun sometimes it’s stupid. So ‘Ha’ is a failsafe to show that it’s not as serious as they read my muddled babble to be.
It is fucking cringey when you tell people that you’re joking. but that’s the world right now. HA
