It’s not tourism they don’t like it’s Air BnBs. So instead of tourists staying in hotels in certain areas - they are fucking everywhere. So you’ve got the lads on pub golf staying below Grandad in a block of flats.
The wisest, although going absolutely mental on XMAS Eve/ Day at the top of ramblas listening to ‘The Sentinel’ on some random girls speaker we borrowed, dressed as Father Christmas was one of my personal highlights.
No wonder they hate tourists, although I had a NIE so at least I could blag I paid tax.
I never went to Barcelona for a skate trip as I always felt sorry for the locals, even 10 or 15 years ago. I took my mum to Christiania though so I’m probably a horrible tourist sometimes too, haha.
A lot of people in rural areas of Switzerland seem to be really over (over)tourism which I understand. It would piss me off if I wanted to stay close to my roots, in a mellow, initially remote place, only to see 1500 tourists on my doorstep every day between April and October.
I used to travel loads with my ex but these days getting up early, drawing something with a cuppa or two, going for a skate, a bike ride or a hike and chilling with my pets after that makes me happy. I’ll have to admit that living that way is easier when you are in a very nice area with everything you might want or need close to you, I know I’m lucky and don’t take any of this for granted.
Flying has turned into such a nightmare too, I just don’t have the patience it takes anymore. Driving is more fun but it’s pretty bad for the planet too. #greta
My mate (big, muscly gym bro who absolutely shreds) got his phone pickpocketed by an African prostitute late one night when we were walking back to our hostel.
He realised what had happened and immediately put her in a headlock and started shouting for the police. He didn’t know the Spanish for police, so was shouting “policiero”!
Whilst in the headlock, he started frisking her to try and find his phone on her. She eventually reached into her bra and pulled out his phone and gave it back.
It all happened so quickly. Sketchy but funny as fuck looking back.
been fancying a trip to Barca on my own or with the GF but kinda putting off. I always felt safe there. The only time that was weird is when I took my Sis and her husband and he wanted Mcd’s which made tourist alarm bells ring and my bag got snatched from under the table. I swear the Mcd’s worked brushed it away for another to snatch. Camera, Wife’s passport and glasses were in there.
I’ve been a few times and had no issues, the whole place is very different at night and I’m sure there’s more than enough trouble to be found if you’re a bit naive about things. Nearly every non skater I’ve spoken to has had some kind of tale about stuff being stolen though so it’s definitely a big problem there.
I’m with you, flying has been ruined. All my experiences on Eurostar have been great and they’ve added new destinations recently as well.
