Tinfoil hat time.
Tech bros released smartphones and social media to wreck everyone’s attention span 20 years ago. Now that our concentration is effectively neutered, they’re selling us the AI that will read those long boring documents for us and give us instant answers.
Just came to me as I’m sat here re-reading the same first page of a report for the fourth time cos I can’t take it in.
I reckon smartphones were just a great invention just like social media was a nice idea. However, neither were regulated due to the money and those in the know started to see the effect they were having and decided to maximise their profits. AI as a project has been around for decades, now there’s the money to build thr tech and without proper regulation they are pushing it for profits.
I’m not against technolgy but it has to serve a real ethical purpose. Just because it exists doesnt mean we all need it.
I remember reading back in the old days of the internet something like ‘Once they learn how to monetise it, it’s game over.’ People didn’t know what to do with it when it first started to became bigger. For few years it stayed that way, unable to really police file sharing and such.
It’s easy to think it was always like the way it is now.
The first social media places like Myspace were fun (I only had a positive experience on it). Even YouTube and Instagram was great when they first started. Google was so much more accurate when it had hardly anything to sell. Now it couldn’t find you that song from a few lyrics like it once did. The rich learnt what to buy, control and use to manipulate us like anything.
I’ve seen a similar sentiment posted quite a bit but I’m old enough to remember when using Wikipedia as a reference was looked down on, and now everyone’s just spouting whatever wrong information Gemini gives them as fact, and the actual factually correct Wikipedia entries are hidden all the way down the page on google
Yep, as soon as someone with money sees dollar signs then it goes to shit. When someone starts something with dollar signs already in their eyes then it never works. Has to be an innocent idea of good or progression for it to catch and then all of a sudden the realisation of profit and the corruption starts.
When the internet first became a thing in everyone’s house, pop-up ads were the thing that the tech bros hated and would try to find ways to block them
Jump forward 25 years later and these same tech bros are trying to find ways to make you watch 3 ads before you can start your car and monetize sleep
