They have not changed though. The market changed from under them. Do they need to follow other brands lead to stay in business or do they stick to their guns?
I have never bought a pair of lakai shoes and never really liked any models particularly but that’s ok, i’m a stick in the mud and have a very narrow parameter list to get something that I can skate in. For leisure i’m less fussy and can buy what I like the look of even if I know I can’t skate in them. Lakai have never hit any of these for me. I wouldn’t wish them to fail though, and I know your comment isn’t meaning that but the influence of your comment can project far more than intended. I really do believe that.
No one is wishing them to fail. I think it is surprising they are still in business with market share of Nike / Adidas / Vans / Cons / New Balance.
They aren’t very well made in my opinion. I don’t wish them to fail - but the company that brought out Fully Flared seems very different to what it is now.
i’m not saying you can’t feel that way, just saying that saying certain things in a certain way seems shitty.
I don’t think the vulcs are much good but the cupsole models always used to skate and last well.
That said, I just Googled the latest Manchester vulc and it looks pretty good all worn in:
Don’t worry, orders won’t start dropping off because of a comment online.
Orders will start dropping off when they continuously make bad shoes.
Imagine the pain your feet would have to endure to get it looking like that…
That is the thing, I think skate brands got anyway with selling shite shoes under the ‘We are skaters like you, keep it core’ mantra for years and got away with it. Nike, adidas, ect have made them have to up their game. Which can’t be a bad thing. The amount of skate shoes companies got crazy at one point. They can’t all of known what they were doing. Losing a company that wants to put out a lot of crap shoes and just wants to make money first isn’t a bad thing.
Saying nothing about crappy shoes just because a skaters runs the company is worse I think, if anything. Just let them get away with ripping us off?
Those look like they would hold up so well with that layer of rubber.
Can’t help but wonder what they would look like with all the lace loops being innies?
I remember reading someone in the shoe biz (possibly even whoever it is that runs State) say that it costs about $1 million to get a single shoe produced. I’m presuming thats design, testing, production, shipping etc. Probably doesn’t include company set up costs or marketing or branding. And then you’ve got salaries and other overheads on top of that. Thats a lot of money.
Makes you wonder how a company like Straye can make money making these shitty shoes.
Didn’t they share machining with Vans or something? So basically there’s less shoe to create machinery for.
Yeah, does that amount include building their own factory from scratch?
Look how bad they are. Jeez. Good on them for trying, but holy shit those must have cost about $1 a go to make.
They are old vans moulds Ronny told me. I had a pair of the Straye slip ons with the Zero logo on. I got them in a sale and they are OK. You can tell there is a price difference as I had vans pro slip ons before. Are they not owned by Supra? I remember Muska being involved early on
Holy shit there’re awful. Were they a british brand? I vaguely remember them
Yeah, only British skate shoe brand since whatever-the-fuck those 70s plimsols were, I think.
Pretty sure Muska had to end up issuing a statement to say that he definitely wasn’t involved, he was just in an ad because he’s friends with JT or whatever.
The Nyjah shoe is ok and Nyjah is well good at skating but…he’s still Nyjah.
