Lol Lakai.
I’m surprised that there’s still so many non sports shoe brand around now, I would’ve thought they’d all have died off by now, wasn’t Supra supposed to be going out of business?
Lakai just seem lost as a brand to me, it’s like they don’t even care any more.
We’re on a tiny island that skateboarding barely cares about, we know nothing of the industry, especially now we don’t have a industry hub like we used to. These shoe brands might be doing ok over in the states.
We can have an opinion over here of course but we don’t have all the info to make the most informed one so should we really talk like this on companies?
We are ruining companies as we type, people believe what they read on the internet. People reading our shitty comments on here could take it as an informed fact and in turn thinks the same, tells mates, no one buys product. Just the same as you read a review online, you read something negative and it influences your decision to purchase/use the service yourself, without thinking whether the reviewer is a complete unreasonable bell themselves.
You sound like some 100 year-old farmer living on Shetland. We’ve got this awesome thing called the internet, and it’s got a thing called Instagram on it, and because of that we can speak to people who live in exciting far-off places and find out things that you’d normally have to wait to be told via a telegram carried by a sailing ship.
Do you though? Who actually reads an online review and presumes it’s right? The same people who see a story on Facebook and presume it’s true? Not sure there are many of those folk here.
yeah I know but i’m also aware that people are fickle and spread the poorest of opinions too. I just think it’s shitty for someone who knows nothing of the ins and outs to say that a company is done.
Blatantly not true.
One of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard.
Millions of people probably, otherwise what’s the point of having online reviews. It’s what makes or breaks business’ nowadays, especially in hospitality.
I’m being absolutely melodramatic of course. But I do think there is some truth in it.
If you say a shoe is shit and I like it. I’m still gunna buy it.
That’s not the same as saying a company is done and you’re surprised they are still in business.
It isn’t. Consumers’ opinions are important, and if some anonymous person on the internet, speaking to a couple of dozen other anonymous people on the internet thinks that, then that’s up to them.
I don’t know anything about Supra but I never see them about and don’t see anything on Insta so I guess they’re gone? Who knows? Does it matter what I think? Nope. If Supra et al. cared they’d have accounts on every forum instead of marketing departments.
I know you’re proud to not be on social media but really, you’re missing a lot.
Yes, it’s cruciual in hospitality and leisure. That’s my job, I know it well.
You might not know, but there are quite a few kids talking shit about various companies on the internet, and guess what? Nobody gives a fuck. People buy what they like. Nobody is so insecure that some anonymous teenager’s shit-talking on the interent will affect their buying decisions. Unless for some reason somebody only gets to read one review of something ever.
I’m not proud, I just don’t like what people become when they have an agenda. You can feel their desperation to get feedback, kudos etc. I know that does not go for everyone and this place and places like it are still safe from that.
Sounds like you had a bad experience one time.
It lets you choose who you follow, it’s pretty cool.
I think you’re using your opinion on what you think about online comments to gauge what others think. Projecting your common sense onto them. Not everyone is as informed and intelligent as you on certain subjects.
I’ve never had a bad experience.
Not everybody is as naive and stupid as you think. Plenty of them are, but it’s not the majority in skateboarding.
Young people know how the internet works, it’s not teenagers going to these 5G protests, kids know the difference between clever and stupid. It’s a fine line.
That is true, but I do get surprised how stupid people can be. I know it sounds different on here but I am genuinely optimistic about everyone I meet, talk to, I assume they are decent and intelligent until they prove otherwise. But I just can’t help pointing out when I think something is unfair to say. And I think that someone saying that they are surprised that a company is still in business, especially when the company has done no wrong, just produced things that wasn’t to their liking. I would understand it if it was a run immorally or the company has proven to be shitty. I could say that I am surprised to see that Yodel is still in business, because they have a track record of bad service, bad employee relations etc etc but lets use Lakai for example, what have they done that’s so bad to be out of business? Just because someone prefers a sports brand, why should skateboarders not be allowed to keep running their brand as they want to?
For me they’re just not even close to what made them fairly popular in the first place, they brought something fresh and new to the market when they were first around and now they’re just a shadow of that.
I’m not sure that’s the same as saying they deserve to be out of business though, I’m just surprised that they can make money.
