random worrying question, how did that arch disorder begin? like what was it like?
From my dad’s persepective, it was from childhood and then made worse by standing 8 hours a day since 1973, along with not eating healthy, being inactive, etc.
I did not stand correctly in the first place, since I was a kid, and then skating for 28 years did not help. That wrong pressure I got used to putting on my arch resulted in multiple Lisfranc and Chopart joint sprains which is super rare according to the foot specialists I saw. Never ever rolled an ankle though! So weird.
I thought I couldn’t skate again ever last winter. Had crazy nightmares in which I was in a wheelchair à la Lieutenant Dan. I freaked out.
haha i just thought they were lace savers for knee slides on vert
Oh yeah. That’d make sense too. They do have a picture of a mountain on them also.
It’s a ‘ja’ from me.
I just got a pair of Vans Ultrarange Pro 2.
I’m not generally impressed with Vans quality or durability. I’ve worn through Half Cabs in a week before. More recently I did buy a pair of Ultrarange Pro 1, and they’re ok but not brilliant - still going but not as durable as, say, Nike SB.
However, I have high hopes for the new model - they’re pricey at £90 but they look really solidly built, a proper modern skate shoe with external reinforcement in all the key wear areas.
I just think the Vans stripe (Style 36, Old School, or whatever it’s called) just looks weird on modern design trainers. Personal thing.
Yeah. ‘Since 1966. Apart from the plastic bits we took from Nike.’
That’s a whole lot of shillings for a pair of skate shoes.
I think that’s an interesting question - what kind of a brand is Vans?
If it’s mainly a skate heritage/retro brand, then the vans stripe shouldn’t be on anything that wasn’t around in the 60s/70s/80s. Canvas uppers, vulcanised waffle sole.
But if Vans wants to be seen as pushing the sport forwards, then the stripe should always be on the most technologically-advanced shoes.
I’m not a big skate retro fan myself - I’d bulldoze Southbank and replace it with a modern skatepark - but others feel very strongly the other way.
That is so you.
There’s only one spot with lines and flow in the uk like SB. There’s a hundred shite parks with bowls that don’t flow and peak at 7ft.
Exactly. Southbank is more than a few banks that many considered done, boring or played out many years ago. If you want a skatepark, go to one, if you want to feel something from an area, go to SB. (granted, not all feelings may be pleasant)
The funny thing with Vans, was that they tried to keep up with the whole technology thing back in the late 90s/early 00s and then realised that they should go back to doing what they do best, vulcanised, waffle sole shoes, which is what Rowley was pushing for and started their resurgence. I guess they didn’t learn from that.
I think they should just stick to what they do well and not chase the market.
Here’s a pic of my halfcabs which got wet then left in my mates cellar for 6 months. They scrubbed up fine and are still skateable.
I’ve seen worse colourways
My god that stage produced some horrors.
Don’t you skate vert? Zing.
