They do look really shit and I’d never wear them, but I really enjoy looking at those Adidas Simpsons ones. The Flaming Mo and Krusty Burger ones are fun.
There were some half-decent Yo! MTV Raps Puma Clydes once. If you like Puma. Which I don’t.
Well yeah I could see a lot of different influences in the design - but to me it just seemed a bit too generic for my liking.
I still have a massive soft spot for Puma States/ Suedes and Baskets
There was a Puzzle one too.
In all white and gum they’d maybe look ok
weird shoe question. i’ve skated almost nothing but Maranas for years. my last pair seemed stiffer than normal and took ages to break in. Just got a new pair and in comparison they’re so soft and lovely. both have exactly the same label inside the tongue but feel completely different. why are shoes that are the same model completely different? the side walls of the months-old shoes feel tougher than the brand-new ones
they’re different colours, otherwise surely they should be the same shoe??
Reckon different production factors, possibly due to Covid or change of supplier.
It’s annoying because I want to make sure I get these softer ones but that’s impossible unless I annoy the hell out of a skate shop or actually visit one in person like a caveman
where did you get your Quattros from mate?
@Londonskater might be able to help. And I stress the word ‘might’. If the box has some kind of specific serial number range on it or is a particular season you might be able to swerve the ones with the stiff soles.
Wow that’s crazy. Does this happen with all shoe brands?
My knowledge is a little outdated but IIRC it’s nothing like what you think it is. Nike and Sole Tech don’t have shiny factories in China (I think DC did at one point, but it’s very rare). The factories will be well versed with the requirements of each manaufacturer and know expectations etc. Sometimes a supplier of materials will run out and the brand has to find an alternative that’s as close as possible (and in your case, not meeting your expectations). It’s quite possible they will be churning out Emericas one day and Globes the next. If quality control isn’t absolutely on point you’ll get all kinds of weird shit happening. I remember some Vans I got years ago (early 90s) had massive differences in size of the toe cap (not like clown difference, but obvious when compared next to the other shoe). And some manufacturers, if they have huge demand will have to use different factories for the same shoe, etc etc
Vans always seem the worst for it, because they use so many factories in such different climates, so the soles end up setting at different shapes and hardnesses. Probably why they did the Anaheim ones.
“We actually went to Taiwan for the Koston 2 because we couldn’t get the Koreans to make what we wanted, so that opened up a whole new direction in the construction of shoes and the lasts and things. China has been a big one too, and then more recently it’s moved to Vietnam because of a lot of the trade restrictions around stuff going into Europe.”
Don Brown, not long ago.
I remember having to warranty a whole size break of Janoski Mids for the exact same reason. Split toe box.
I always felt so bad putting the factory code in knowing someone was going to get a bollocking.
Yeah fucking Janoski mids tho
I can’t really add anything which hasn’t been said above…unless the Maranas were different versions. They have a Marana and a Marana Vulc, and a Marana XLT. I think there were others, too.
Yeha I get you. They’re both just “maranas”. Oh well, thanks guys!
