A stranger thing relating to him surely has to be his daughter being on adidas, you’d think he would’ve flowed her Emerica for at least a little while. Oh well, I think Emerica is due a bit of a revamp but it’s a shame that couldn’t have been building a team around Westgate.
I’m only on the team because of my dad complex. Why she is on Element flow and not Baker and Riley is on Baker (now) and not Birdhouse (anymore). Riley ended up getting his dad on the team (Lakai), oh how times have changed, haha.
Yeah you’re right they could do with a revamp. I’ve predominantly skated only in Emericas the last 10 years because I like their shoes and from a brand perspective, liked the skating of Reynolds, Templeton, Westgate and Hsu. But with such big players gone, not sure Romero, Spanky and Figgy can really carry it in the same way - they sort of need a figurehead again
No that made sense to me, he started out on Birdhouse because of his Dad and then as he got better decided it was best to be on a sponsor in his own right. Stella Reynolds seems to have only ever skated in adidas shoes, if you’re going to be flowed shoes right at very start of your career wouldn’t make sense to just have the same company as our professional skater dad?
Not if it isn’t what she wanted to wear, kids can be fussy fuckers about what they wear from a young age. Maybe it shows just how uncool Emerica are to the younger kids. She wouldn’t even wear them for free. Literally dad shoes to her.
There’s fussy and then there’s wearing adidas 100% of the time, don’t really disagree on Emerica though, just looking at their site there’s only one or two shoes I’d consider, that said it’s not like the more prominent brands are incapable of producing stinking shoes.
Makes you wonder what spurred him to make the change, had heard rumors of him shifting to Adidas in 2020 after his Emerica contract was up. I would’ve initially said money as Emerica isn’t what it used to be but thinking about they’ve always (atleast seemed to) treat their riders well financially in the sense that Heath retired fine, Herman had money to invest in St Archer, Westgate and his cranberry farm etc alongside the fact I presume he has a big stake in Bakerboys dist so he’s gotta be sitting flush financially.
Probably more the changes within Emerica, I mean looking at the team page who’s really left whos “og” outside of say Spanky and Romero? Jon Miner leaving would also probably have caused some odd vibes there for sure and maybe he just figures he’s done all he can there/feels slightly disillusioned and is moving to new pastures. That being said it also spurs some new creation, it’d be cool to see Emerica have a bit of a revamp and push the newer dudes, and a Reynolds Vans pro model would be nice to see.
and yeah, NB’s run a half size small. Got some 617’s solely from a guy who bought them in his regular size 8 and they were too small whereas I got midget 7.5 size and they fit snug. Maybe even an 8.5 would’ve been better, not the first time I’ve had to full size up.
emerica are the only skate shoes i get on with, the laced ones are so good. got the romeros atm but wish they still did the figgy’s
How long have Reynolds leaving Emerica rumours being going on now? 5 or 6 years? Even longer? At this point it would be a bit like when Koston went to Nike, not a big surprise or even that big a catch for them as it’s not like he was at his peak.
Not had any in years but I used to rate Emerica shoes.
I had a few pairs of Embanks, Reynolds and the Heretics, all of which lasted really well.
They were well made and I seem to remember the soles going through before the sides.
That isn’t even a bad thing considering how much hammer they got, they didn’t have short lives so durblable were they.
Just realized Templeton isn’t on the team anymore either. When did that officially happen? He had that chiller model and boot thing out last year I think.
I’d read rumors Spanky wasn’t going to stick around either, if that happens as well as Reynolds on Vans, there’s really no connection left to the This is skateboarding/Stay Gold era.
Tough shoes to fill, if you’ll pardon the pun.
They look like that old Brandon Szafranski emerica
They look like Homer’s car.
Yep, and other colours of it remind me of some old Nike Agassi from the early 90s -
The sneaker geeks here will no doubt source it to something else, but god no, those Es are horrific.
Definite early-90s Nike colours, good shout. Whether on shoes or shellsuits.
They’re horrible so I’m sure they’ll sell like hotcakes.
It’s like a Kalis for toddlers. Some sort of sensory toy so they can learn all about disgusting colours and funny shapes.
and I was still only just about over that Vans horror.
