Saw some of these in real life at the weekend and thought they looked rad.
Surprised by the price when I just found them online. Gola must have nostalgia cool now.
After making a list of the shoes I’ve skated, I skated a ridiculous amount of fallens when I was a teenager, mostly sole tech and vans for the past few years some Nikes, my taste in footwear definitely got better as I got older
And I’m sure there’s some I’m missing but these were the ones I can think of, these also aren’t the official color ways just again what I could remember
2005 Adio Eugene “HIM” looks like a low point, good memory though !
Yeah when I look back yes it was a very low point but I was like 11 or 12 so I’m sure I was like “these are the dopest kicks ever” I believe I had a shirt to match just to add to the cringe factor but like you said the memories man
Just realised I’ve never owned a pair of Lakai either.
Or HUF.
I actually went out specifically to buy a pair of HUF a few years back because I just thought they were doing really good things but the shoes I tried on were all terrible.
I guess thats why they canned the whole program and went back to clothing only.
Same. Never pulled the plug.
Never had Lakai but I think that’s cos in my subconscious they were the same shit quality build as most Crail stuff back in the day. Are they any good?
I had pair of Joey Pepper’s pro shoe when they came out. They were the heaviest, inflexible things I’ve ever worn. I gave them to a charity shop. I had a few pairs of the Mercer and Sutter which were much better, but essentially just nice looking very thin vulcs.
Last pair of Lakai I bought we’re the Manchester slim or whatever they were called. Absolutely shit. The collar dug into my heel and ankle and the sole was paper thin.
Same. I’ve never owned a pair of Nikes.
I adored Adio when I started skating thanks to One Step Beyond being released just as I properly got into the skate world.
After that phase it was mostly just Lakai after Fully Flared, then adidas after Diagonal… and then Sole Tech pretty religiously from 2010/2011ish up until now.
Never had Globe or Fallen but I’ve had one pair of Lakai and one pair of Circa. Both enough to not go back.
Yeah, I had a few pairs of Busenitz. Loved 'em.
I had a couple of good pairs of Cons but then had a run which were just terrible…they all just went so saggy within two skates no matter which style I tried.
Ive got some Lakai Cambridge and they feel great. Nothing wrong with the construction or quality at all
Says the man with a chicken on his head.
I had the Lakai Carroll 3 and SJ-3 which were both really nice and skated well, but barely anything from them since has taken my fancy and that’s a long time now! Always wanted these though but missed out:
Seems as though it’s still not totally beyond them to make a decent shoe you might want to wear: Lakai Carroll - Weartested - detailed skate shoe reviews
I used to skate the Lakai Howard Selects religiously around the time of Fully Flared. I was young, the shoes were relatively cheap and I could get away with skating a really basic vulc shoe. But after a while I started to notice a decline in quality - I think there was some weird, vaguely tax-related reason that they started putting cardboard underneath the insole of the shoe in the UK. Can anyone else remember this or am I tripping?
I remember there was a decline in quality that turned many loyal fans away from them, massive own goal. Didn’t they switch to a better factory around 6ish years ago?
Slippers are taxed less, but this is probably just Lakai saving production costs.
I don’t remember this - but I know that rubber soled shoes are a different tax band to non-rubber soled shoes.
Some of the etnies non-skate shoes have soles made up from some form of linen. I asked a couple of questions about it and it seems to be common in price-point non-skate shoes.
GiftedHater x Rose Anvil would be good.
