Shoes

I’ve heard the same with those, if I was going to try Vans again I’d probably go with the Crockett.

How much are slip ons now?

Simply, they look horrific.

And just because a company is skater owned shouldn’t be an excuse for ugly colourways or terrible designs. Put the effort and come up with something better.

And that’s the same for all the mid-90s cosplay buffonery from DC and Es at the moment, some of those legacy re-releases were bad then and with hindsight, worse now.

AVE’s are great skate shoes and look good (subjective, I appreciate!) in white/grey, black/gum, brown/gum but, colourways be damned, at a practical level having a plastic bit of mesh between the tail of a skateboard and either side of your foot makes them a tough sell if you miss your tricks. On the plus side - swampy sweaty feet don’t really happen, they’re grippy and the sole lasts well. I guess its a case of just try and land your shit and not get bitten on the ankles haha…

I had a fair amount of hours in them before the sole came away from the upper and it was repeated 360 flip attempts which did them - would have gotten another couple months otherwise. Overall happy though. I’ll pick up more in black/gum if I come across them again.

Crockets (2s?) are nice enough but my problem was that the inner lining went through really fast at the toes creating a ridge, so they didn’t make it past the chiller to skate stage for me (much like the Vans with the rubber toecap, Style ‘something or another’). If I got some again I’d go straight to skating in them and not wear them beforehand as I really like the Vans semi cup/vulc sole to skate in.

Sidenote - sitting the AVEs next to some NB 808/1010 is laughable…but the AVEs are probably a 1/4 of the weight of 808s.

Anyhow - sorry - waffling. Just my experience with ‘modern’ Vans

Can confirm Vans Crocketts are amazing, very supportive with the cupsole and good on the ankle being a hi! My recent favourite

A thorough review!

I only suggested the Crockett’s (only the second one is available now) as I’d had a good experience with the first model.

I’ll give the AVE’s a go one day.

Yeah man they look sick :muscle: :fr:

Just had a look at some Etnies for the first time in a while and I think I might try these rather than moan about the current Accel’s, this shape looks just right.

Not sure if you can get any more boring!

Reminds me of the accel tt’s from 2010 times
Accels but with slim tongues

Surely it is just an accel with a slightly different side panel.

and a different tongue which seems to be a normal size.

That shoe looks like you could skate it for 5 years and it’d barely have a scratch on it, but not in a good way more like a “why won’t you die!” way.

Well if you don’t want something boring there’s always these:
