£125? Nope.
I expect they’re great to skate in though, just not for me. Remove the sock and plastic shite and I may have been tempted.

I liked the end reaction to that stand up they had at Tampa.
That Nine Club review was just horrendous, they should really have cut that ‘Van England’ part out.
I’ll stick to my Old Skool Pro’s I think
Honestly thought I was going to not vibe with them but they’re actually fucking sick and I feel like I’m skating an old footy shoe, and I usually skate totally non tech stuff/chunkier shoes
I realise also how funny this is that I look like I’m peddling the propaganda but I actually fuck with them hahah
Nah, I know they’ll be good, last AVE’s were so good to skate in. New ones arent for me, visually. Maybe a black/gum will sort them out
Apparently forthcoming colourways won’t all have the sock
I had some koston sb Flyknit about 3 or 4 years ago and I didn’t get in with them at all. Difficult to put on is what I most remember. Although I do wear lace up ankle support all the time
So the AVE is not the first sock skate shoe
And then there were the Sal mids, the first skate shoe with a sock liner, (1996).
There’s something about that shoe in combination with the composition of that photo that makes it one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever seen. Don’t know why.
The originals had his name on the tongue where the shield is. The whole profile and shape of the shoe was pretty different too.
The way I remember it they were way overpriced and went straight to sale racks when they came out. They were also one of the first skate shoes I remember seeing in Schuh. I can remember passing on them cos they had yellowed in the shop.
I don’t think they were overpriced. They were certainly more expensive than most shoes though. The Muskas that eS released the year before were £90 which seemed pretty nuts at the time. You’re right about the sale thing. I picked up two pairs in a snowboard shop in ‘ 97 for £35 a pair.
It’s a Lucas heel on an Ultraboost sole, Flyknit upper, heel support from the P-Rod 6, that moulded/flexible toe from the P-Rod 9, finished in a Nike Volt colourway.
Basically this:
I’m 99.9% sure Muska wasn’t in the first drop it came much later. They had the Sal 23s, SLBs, and some horrible ones. And Accels which went under the radar a bit at first co they just looked like Etnies but were obviously the best shoe of the bunch.
You’re right about the Muskas, those were later for sure. In the run you’re thinking of there was a leather shoe with a weird air bubble in the sole under the heel which was only visible if you took the insole out. Those were £90 in ‘95. Aura’s ?
These
Yeah maybe that’s the very expensive one I was thinking of? What I can remember clearly is that the first drop wasn’t that well made, had bits of excess glue, yellowing, etc… We all went into Schuh and gave them a good looking over but DC came out way stronger on their first drop in comparison.
When the Aura came out the Sal 23 was on shelves at the same time and it was still an Etnies shoe. There wasn’t much time between the Etnies to eS switch up . When Soletech moved the Sal on to eS wasn’t that when they dropped the 23 on the heel and changed it to an eS logo?
The first éS Burnquist had a sock in it too. I remember Bingo’s selling patter for it “It’ll be sweaty and smelly within a week!”
The vert button on the vert shoe.
