Shoes

As Blender said a lifetime ago…lets get rid of the skeletons

I’m not trying to score points here, but I was pretty sure I was right on my dates with eS releasing the Aura in 1995. So I had a quick dig.

While we are in this es emerica topic

Anyone remember these

I almost got a pair several times but they were to similar to the accels, I remember reading somewhere they were the emerica version of an accel

Not the best photo sorry it’s the only one I could find on google that isn’t blurry crap quality

No offence, but I hope they actually paid you to wear them

Its an '88(?) Rebel Sports throwback shoe, so I guess they need to be on there.
But yeah, totally.

No flap. No skeletons. At that point, we are starting to become wearable…

Maybe they only had distro in 1996? They don’t appear in the Sidewalk product pages until April 1996 and they’re in the CCS Summer 1996 catalogue. Wouldn’t be the first time Sole Tech have made a mistake in their marketing.

It was definitely 1996 I got them from Schuh anyway, and nobody had seen them in skate shops when they appeared there.

Not seen this site before. Those SLBs look even better than I remember…

This is all quite confusing…

The ad for the shoe - the etnies Sal 23 - is in Big Brother 14, at the end of 1994. It’s like they’re saying it was an éS shoe from the start.

Thought the first éS shoe was the Uno, but maybe that was just weirdly named.

They added the rubber ollie guard thing and it became the E’s Sal 23. The Etnies version had no rubber guard. 1994 was the Etnies, 95 was the E’s version.

No, that’s not right. I had some beautiful orange/tan with black sole and that had orangey rubber bit. Those were etnies.

Possibly one of my favourite looking shoes I have ever had.

Yeah, same, got the etnies ones when they came out and they had the rubber. I’m sure of it.

Two changes…rubber guard added and extra suede side panel removed.

1994 Etnies

1995 E’s

I had wheat/black, they were etnies and they had the rubber bit. I had this wrongly-spelled sticker on my bed for years.

Yeah I guess there must have been some crossover versions. But the E’s shoe that launched was the updated one which fits with Sal’s story.

I remember them adding the rubber bit but I don’t remember them changing the brand.

Curiouser and curiouser…

The Etnies Sal shoe was 100% first. We all agree on that. The first incarnation didn’t have the little rubber side doodad and the tongue label went from fabric to rubberised at some point. At the time I remember not particularly liking those updates.

The day my mate bought the Auras I also bought this Girl Mariano Bucky Fukumoto bird graphic deck. The deck is dated at 1995, although that’s not to say it hadn’t been sat in the shop for some time I suppose.

The chomp on kicks dude seems to think Auras were 95.

Likewise, in the Jenkem shoe nerd article they’re dated at 1995.

But again, tbf, those guys could be going off the eS archive date which, as @buildafire poimted out, could be flawed.

I guess it’s one of those things that we probably won’t get to the bottom of for sure. That is unless anyone can get a hold of Dyrdek’s time machine.

Ain’t no way Chomponkicks is wrong haha. Would have been called out by now 100%.

etnies claiming here that this was the first one, and it’s got the rubber bit:

I had the wheat, a mate had white and a mate had baby blue, although I’m not sure in what order. Still adamant they came out with the rubber bit on the first ones.

White ones in the first ad don’t have the rubber… Maybe it was colour-specific?

I had the black ones and they had the fabric tongue label and no rubber ting. Maybe, just maybe we’re both right and the different colourways differed in construction. Seems unlikely though eh. I don’t know. I have got a photo of me wearing them but here’s the thing I’m riding a Real Drake Jones butterfly deck in that and they were released in 1995 so negates any tying them to which run of Etnies Sals they were… :man_shrugging::roll_eyes::joy:
