Last few pairs of vans (half cab and chukka low) actually skated really good but this was pre/beginning pandemic

Haven’t had any really catch my attention since most other companies have the same tech there’s not much of a selling point for me personally

I may change my mind if they actually dropped a decent cupsole though and I know there are some options but again they just don’t do anything for me

Oddly enough just seen an insta post from a comp and every pic was someone wearing Vans

I often wear Era’s as ‘nice’ trainers, as they’re easy to dress up. They’re a classic, especially in cream, imo. Annoyingly though Vans seem to be either discontinuing them or not making them as much, as there’s hardly any available anywhere - unless you want some terrible patterned colourway

Is there a range for normal people now? Had a new guy at work today wearing some old schools and they just looked off some how. They had a white vans patch on the tongue which made them look a bit budget.

I’ve got a pair on right now. The original AVEs. They’re reasonably durable for Vans. I’ve also got a pair of AVE 2s at home for when these wear out. I get Vans from time to time but mostly I wear Nike SB

From Shop Eat Surf, May 31 2024.

The latest full-year numbers mean Vans has lost approximately $1.4 billion in revenue in the past two years.

Parent company VF Corp. has implemented several rounds of layoffs at the brand, with many long tenured employees let go.

VF CEO Bracken Darrell previously blamed a move away from the core youth demographic as one of the reasons why Vans lost its way.

He pointed to the business’s success between 2015 to 2020 as new consumer groups flocked to Vans.

“More celebrities started to wear them. Moms bought them for their kids, and we actually took our eye off the core youth audience that had been the lifeblood of Vans,” Darrell said in February of this year.

“The brand had to evolve, but rather than continue to respect and serve the youth audience that built the brand, we only fed the trend that grew it rapidly.”

Darrell also blamed the expansion to lower price points and discounters in more recent years as part of the problem, while the company “offered more and more colorways of the same old things” to chase trends.

“The trend fuel burned out 18 months ago. The trend moved on,” Darrell said.

I have some Vans x Palace eras in white, I didn’t buy them and only got them because they were half size too big for the Mrs and she couldnt be bothered to return them.

It seems locally everyone who was wearing old skools has moved into panda dunks as the shoe of choice

I was on a short ferry trip back in 2019 after some skating with my partner.

It was Friday night and there were a lot of young people off out for the night on the boat.

We soon realised that every one of them except maybe two were wearing Vans old schools. It was like village of the damned.

Na but I’m sure that has some to do with it

Bear in mind you live on a different continent. There are still plenty of kids and mums wearing Panada Dunks in the UK.

Crocs are very popular, I even see them at the gym now. They should be banned.

The only place they’re excusable is in a hospital.

I find the openess of them weird in a hospital.
Fucking hate the look of them.
The general public are weak as fuck and just buy into whatever they think they should to fit in.
Vans have been bitten by that, had a taste of the honey and now have to deal with the drought.
