This made me lol this morning…
It’s this one. A bit like a Powell Flight Deck - thinner than a regular deck and with a carbon top sheet, but the Kape version has a slick base.

Buy British next time.
Yep. Enough amazing British companies that deserve our backing, and the fact that we can buy them from independent British retailers is important.
I had some Globe shoes that looked just like those Kanye ones. They were a comp prize I think so I didn’t pay for them. Well, I did pay, I had my worst injury ever in them and they went in the bin straight after.
Edit: This one but completely white. Gives me shivers just seeing them again.
There’s an import tax ironic brexit joke here.
Can’t wait for my latest 21.9cm board*
That’s an 8.5 btw.
Fucksake Warwick. Its random dog shit companies like this that ruin the industry.
I get what you’re saying, but I think they’re just not a run-of-the-mill style skateboard company. I kinda think of them as a start-up company. They’re not really stealing a huge market share from the traditional skate companies, so whatever.
Personally, riding a Landscape board.
Yer, but its fucking whack. Why do I need a stupid fucking Carbon board.
Nobody does.
Personally skating Nora Welcomes. Admittedly as with a lot of people on here, I don’t pay full price for stuff, so probably don’t support the scene properly enough really.
Carbon top? What’s the point in that?
Wanna come and take a look at my magic beans type deal?
I guess if you can be sold a skateboard with a carbon layer you can be sold on Brexit.
I think Dwindle were doing boards with carbon fibre tops and inlays.
Actually, I think H-Street did it way back too.
Dwindle, Element did as well.
Carbon is made from dead dinosaurs, very much like Brexit
Best I could do, sorry
I try to rise above those sort of comments.
So a board for a vert Dinosaur?
Fucking KAPE? Fuck off
Kape are an Austrian start-up. They seem pretty committed, and they’re advancing the technology. Before the carbon decks they experimented with bamboo.
The benefit of the carbon top sheet is the added strength allows them to use fewer, thinner wood plies, which makes the deck both lighter and stronger. Worth watching the videos on Powell’s website where they drive a car over one of their Flight Decks. Kape decks are very close to Powell’s ones, except they have a slick base that gives a consistent slide.
They’re also accommodating for special requests: their standard wheelbase is a street-oriented 14.25" Because I’m mainly a transition skater I asked whether they did longer wheelbases and they drilled one wider for me, at 14.75"
Here’s what they say about their philosophy. There’s more on the website, but this is how it starts:
It all started with a problem that needed to be solved.
I used to break 2-4 skateboards a month. I never understood why other sports equipment like tennis rackets or skiis have evolved extremely over time, but skateboards did not.
I just did not understand why skateboards were still made out of wood, when there are much better materials that would make the boards perform better and last longer.
After researching for months, I found out that there were no better alternatives on the market. In fact, companies didn´t even want better products, so their customers needed to buy more often - so they can make more money. Even the marketing strategies from the big corporations were set like that: “You are cool when you break your board. Pro skaters do it too. You need to buy boards often.” - But I didn´t buy into that. I thought:
"If I would buy a bike and it would break in two weeks, I would never buy that kind of Bike again. So why should it be different in skateboarding? - I need to change that "
As there were no good skateboards on the market and also no company who wanted to change that, I said: “Ok I will produce them myself.”
Because industrial machines cost way too much, I decided to make the machines myself. With the help of my father, I went to a scrap metal dealer, bought some materials and built a press. My fathers friend who is a very gifted engineer, helped me to create a computer designed mold, which then was milled by a Cnc machine.
Sounds interesting. I like the idea of the wheelbase change. I ride a 8.375 and would really like a 14" wheelbase, but most boards seem to be longer. Inversely, I get bored of riding the same board all the time and like the way they scratch and chip up. Those marks are like a sort of badge of honour in a way, so I’m not keen on a slick board these days.
And carbon top sheet, I’ve heard they can be lethal if they chip up. I can see they’re good for vert and park, where the board doesn’t get thrown around so much. Maybe that’s part of the lack of popularity with street skaters?
Could be! Try drilling the front truck back a bit, using a baseplate as a guide
