Shoes

Seems to be the mark of shit quality shoes that they’re either insta-floppy like Vans or granite clogs like DC. The expense must come from making the shoe somewhere inbetween.

Never had a pair.

bought some in 2020 on sale. Returned them after realising they were about as good as a pair of trainers from spendless or some other off brand cheap as chips shoe shop.

Some of the best shoes I’ve had have been DC’s but if you look through their range now there’s probably only a couple of models I’d actually wear.

Then you look at NB and there’s loads I’d potentially buy.

Spot on, I remember being amazed at how they could get nubuck leather (or whatever it was) to be so stiff and inflexible, and why they would do that for something that was supposedly meant for skateboarding. Still, at the time I worked in a shop that sold shitloads of them to skaters, so I guess people liked them.

They looked ok in suede, Wenning wore them a few times:

Less chunky than many of their recent models too.

Only DCs I’ve ever had were the Evan Smith pro shoes as chillers. For that they were lovely, and the insole and grip feels like it’d be amazing if you like vulc shoes. But the canvas upper is so, so thin. Like, can’t wear them when the weather is below 14 degrees because your feet will get cold thin.

They do make me think I could give another vulc DC shoe the time of day if there were any that looked decent.

Leather shoes… they’re bad to skate in right?

For context, having a bit of shoe madness… need something that feels great to skate in immediately. Which I found the ASICS Japan pro really good for.

So, I kinda want these… or the all black non pro version… but I can’t remember if I’ve ever tried “leather” skate shoes before and my brain says they might be shit…

From my experience yes.

I guess it depends what skating you do.

Leather shoes were always a ballache to break in and grip the board when trying to pop.

I don’t get how you would think a leather upper affects pop
It no make the sense to me

I assume he means the grip when sliding the front foot for whatever trick.

Ah. Not a worry for me.
Anyway soft leather = comfy and nice.

Leather is ok once bedded in and scuffed enough to have the surface of suede. So might as well always go with suede. Perfect from the box.

Ha ha!

Just say I was shit at skating why dont you?

That’s not what I meant at all! Haha
No I just didn’t get how the top of a shoe would have any effect on anything, but I think that says more about my level of skating than yours

For me the top toebox was so important. I have worn through shoes in less then 30 mins before. I would just continuously do kickflips down things, over things, into things and my big toe when flicking would wear a perfect circle right in the centre on top. Really fucking annoying but I was addicted. Eventually I learned 360 flips and that would take the pressure off the top of my shoe.

Yeah had some black leather busenitz which were my go-to shoe and sold them iwithin a session as there was no flick-grip (back when there was flick).

Might have found my next pair of DCs
