Not sure if this has been done on here before but a bit of Sunday fun. A “safe place” to divulge your deepest darkest skate secrets. Whether its a guilty pleasure skater or having a photo printed you never landed.
To get the ball rolling…
I can’t rock fakie. In the 23 years (last couple barely count in all fairness) of skating I’ve never done one. For some reason I just cant get my head to allow me to do it.
This too. Never done one, not even got close. It doesn’t make sense to me. Done a few fakie ones, makes way more sense. Regular - no chance. Maybe I’ll make that my mission for 2025.
I do Nollie inward heels but honestly, and everyone knows this, they are slightly pressured. I don’t care, I love doing them.
I was mongo for ages and it wasn’t until I started riding switch I naturally transitioned to push normal both ways. It still means that I can’t throw down like a normal person though. I can’t throw the board down and jump on front foot first.
I’m guilty of loads of nasty quirks.
Can’t backside 180 anything apart from nollie flip. Can’t 360 flip but can fakie. Switch flips and heels look way better than my regs. It’s just a big contrary illogical mess.
I thought I learned crooked grinds pretty much when they first appeared (‘91). It wasn’t until 30 years later, during Covid, when the penny finally dropped and I realised I was grinding them on the wrong side of my truck. I was just doing tweaked snowplough nosegrinds for three decades. They must have been fairly convincing as nobody seemed to clock it, at least they never pointed it out to me - or maybe they all knew and just took the piss behind my back.
I have thrown out so many frontside airs in the hope that one of them would just feel so right I would black out and bring it in but never had the guts to land back in transition. Could do them from quarter to flat bank. Flinging them up high in the air probably made it look like I were better than I actually was and I guess it did look impressive haha, but I was convinced one would happen at some point.
I would love to have typical frontside 5-0s but I really really have to force myself to even go for them and then it’s touch and go whether I stand up too much and they just go shit. Always felt so horrible and yet it’s such a simple trick for many.
