Skate Wizards

I have a vague memory of a Gonz bail (late 90s 411vm? Europe?) where he flies off of a kicker, maybe over a car or something, and there’s someone below him directly where he’s about to land. He does this sort of cat-like undulation mid-air and somehow manages avoid crashing into the other guy’s head. Anyone know the clip I’m talking about?

I thought I knew, but the one I found was more slam than bail.

Also, I know that latest Vincent Huhta part got some deserved flak in the footage thread (mainly for weird editing), but I do think he’s a mini stoned spaghetti wizard.
He’s got an offcuts section here with loads of gems. His footage starts at 10.50 then 12.12:

Standout wtf moments for me in this:

  • the “crop duster” pop-off-the-end-of-the-ledge nollie hardflip
  • the nosegrind revert where his body and board are twisting in opposite directions
  • the sideways slide out of the switch nosegrind on that white bank/ledge

Then his full Sour Solution part is also great, and has a magic line (1.28) where he and the camera blast through a big H:

Ah yeah I remember that one! Horrible looking slam for all involved…
Aye I think Mark is going from the left to right hand side of the screen in the one I have in mind, if that helps?

Ugh he is actually magic. Sour have some really interesting riders, he’s almost marmite in how little he seems to try. I absolutely love the way he does the “flat ground trick after the actual trick”. Can’t remember the actual trick but afterwards he tries and bails a 360 kickflip in flat and somehow it’s wonderful

Fuck yeah that Sour solution part is rad, he is kinda floppy and weird but it’s not a bad thing, I like it, he’s proper chill. Plus it’s nice to have some variety of styles in skateboarding, if everyone skated the same it’d be well boring.

@Maldoror “stoned spaghetti wizard” - mhahaha

I would like to add Andy White to this thread

plus a memory of Bob Burnquist on a 90s 411VM. he melted upon hitting a vert wall switch, stretched out like hot chewing gum, and recovered like nothing happened

Bob is a bit of an idol of mine since I was a kid so I did some searching and I can’t find it. Would be keen to se it if you can remember what it is.

But I did find this Rookies section from way back

It’s amazing how shit it is. I mean obviously not Bob, the skating is rad and he was 19 and didn’t know better, but the whole thing is so cringe in a kind of good way

  • Ska punk
  • Unwatchable video focus
  • Unwatchable polarisation
  • Wacky batman spinning video cuts
  • “My sponsors are…”
  • “I believe… In the lower of dreams”
  • “I believe… In the power of your mind”
  • “Use your mind so skate”
  • “Use your power you have in you”

In fairness it’s a nice change from him flexing about his back yard

whole part, but for me particularly the frontside ollie (cheers Spanky) at 1.17

Dude if you post Jimmy you got to enjoy the whole part, don’t timestamp it halfway through, I want to relish the whole thing.

AND that was a frontside ollie, not an air.

You’re welcome.

This is well rewatchable for a Berrics clip:

This clip is full of ill shit, the last two trick line is mental (would be illegal if done by anyone else but Creager makes it very special) and the ender is so rad.

Javier Sarmiento is a wizard for sure but you sort of have to see him in the flesh to get how good he really is.
I suppose we could add Wes Kremer to this list.

Hopefully this counts. Andy can do anything he wants on a skateboard, it just happens that most of the time he can’t be bothered to.

That was so good!

He’s like a Glaswegian Corey Kennedy. Was walking along the Clydeside a couple of years ago and heard some mad banshee screaming/laughter rushing up behind me, recoginsed it was Andy (who I’d only seen in vids til then) who was pelting it on his bike, board strapped to his back, trying to do that thing that Gonz does in Super Champion Funzone where he supermans the fucking thing headfirst while riding along.

Was the shouting under the bridge by any chance? Usually likes a bit of a shout there.

I know it’s from an element video but the trick at 1.53 is nuts. As are a lot of the others
