SOTY 2023

Hate to say it, but that shitted all over the Knox part. Skating was at such a high level. He did Brad Cromer’s ender from Outliers switch just in the middle of it. He did the Heath fs blunt from Stay Gold switch.

Some negatives though: the fit with the trilby and skeleton gloves was hilarious; some of the footage had a washed-out colour palette which didn’t do it for me; and, generally, a more exciting edit might have emphasised the gnarliness of what was going on a bit more.

They’ve uploaded this suspiciously early today. Maybe something else happening later on?

Edit: bucket hat, not a trilby.

Begging it to get on GX1000 now with all these hill bombs!

After seeing the photo of his trick on that rail I was interested to see how he’d approach the hill. Pretty legit actually but he won’t get on GX1000 with those basic bitch powerslides.

Seriously, this part is absolutely fucked. Does some lext nevs shit on multiple legendary SF spots.

Miley Cyrus has never done anything for me and generally that part won’t turn me into a fan. He is a bit bland. But… there’s some great stuff in that part. BS heelflip, the line with the 180 switch 5.0, switch blunt, biggie backtail 270, the enders, were all sick. Who does he ride for now? Primitive?

Footage did feel overly washed out though and some of those fits were terrible - I’m looking at you hippie beanie, tight white t-shirt, stonewashed jorts.

They haven’t actually put this section on their website yet! Did they mess up the timing?!

His fits are pretty bad but Tom Knox dresses like he’s in the Matalan catalogue so swings and roundabouts innit.

That Palace ad is pretty cringe.

Hahaha my feedback pretty much identical to @Dent_Face

That Silva’s part weren’t bad but any hope of my vote going to him for SOTY evaporated as soon as I saw the pork pie hat

We need an alternate SOTY vote based off fits only.

It kind of is but Joslin did gnarlier stuff with more variety in the Plan B video that must be over 10 years older?

There were some big tricks in this but a lot of straight switch tricks and bs 180 flip tricks.

It was very good but there’s a long list of other skaters who do big tech gnar and ledge/manual lines better. They also don’t force it and wear stupid hats.

Gnarly but meh

You can’t say that dude. He’s OUR Tom. Like when Andy Murray won Wimbledon

Tom Knox isn’t Scottish.

Yeah I know

The Joslin part is fucked but a lot of it (the majority?) is filmed in Southern Californian schoolyards. Also Joslin couldn’t do some of the techier rail and hubba stuff in this Miles part. There’s something really impressive in taking the tech gnar stuff and doing it at hectic street spots like Union Square. The majority of this Miles part is filmed on well known Bay Area/SF street spots and he still stands out on them. This Miles part is up there for sure.

I don’t agree. @Londonskater might be better suited to prove me wrong though.

The sw blunt on the Cardiel ledge is one the best things I’ve seen this year. Amplified by the lovely holding on while he rolls off the curb.

It was great skating but I think Tom Knox maybe innovated more in terms of unlocking spots and expressing himself through skateboarding.

I think Pedro did too…I love it when someone does one of those hiding in plain sight tricks like his gap to 50 at the pyramid ledges or T-Funks China Banks Ollie or Tyshawn’s subway entrance Ollie.

But yeah Miles Silvas is obviously better than pretty much everyone but he’s a bit bland in the way that objectively better looking supermodels are somehow less attractive than cool and funny actors.
