I cycle past those to go swimming in the evenings and there is always security knocking about around the front. There one a bit further up the hill with a gap to grind that looks tasty.

Yeah, dig away the turf at the edge so you can boardslide it. Maybe ask the owner if you can borrow a spade to save you carrying one?
