Stoked!

And the time I went 20 years ago I was already 30 and hadn’t been to the dentist since I was a small child.

I just paid £120 to a dentist today with another £330 to go over the next couple months. I’ve got teeth like the honey monster but I’m pretty well behaved with sugar etc. Sucks.

This is more British than feeling sophisticated drinking terrible red by the Mediterranean Sea at 11 in the morning.

My eldest’s friends weren’t able to play out in the street with him yesterday evening, which he was obviously upset about. I floated the idea of him and I going for a scoot and skate. We ended up cruising the streets for nearly an hour and had such a lovely time.

Haven’t stepped on my board since Spit and Sawdust back in June, stoked.

Cashback!

Proud Parent moment: my lad played his first official game of football for a team tonight. Scored a goal too - he’s buzzing and so am I!

Just ordered a setup for my daughter, her first. The Penny style board is just too small for her and she mentioned she liked the panda on Enjoi boards, so she’s getting one farting a rainbow

Just got back from San Francisco where I stayed at a friend’s for 2 weeks. Tons of good food, some really good beer, skated a lot, went hiking, blablabla… Awesome trip.

Finally got to skate Fort Miley. Went there 14 years ago but got kicked out by the park ranger before we could skate. Got two skates there this time. What a place, I had been dreaming about skating there since the early 90s and let me tell you one thing, the place did not disappoint. The hips of the small pyramid are sooo perfect. Harder to skate than they look but that’s what makes them rad. My first skate there with my mate was really cool, just being there feels so special. Remembering Sheffey eating shit on the big hip in Goldfish, thinking about Carroll frontside flipping over the whole pyramid, being so stoked on Elissa’s new clip there… What made the whole experience even better is that the latest episode of This Old Ledge was about Miley and it had just come out about a week earlier. I got a trick I was happy with there but wanted to do it better so I went back on my own one morning. I coud hear somebody was skating as I was walking up the stairs that take you there. One thing was weird though, I was hearing grind on metal noises. I got there and saw this guy skating on his own, actually trying something on the steep bank to rail. GNARLY. We bro’d down and skated together for over an hour, I got my trick and did some other shit then filmed my new mate for a while. He didn’t get his trick* and the battery of my phone was dead so I smoked a couple cigs and left after he gave me his Insta handle, which made me realize who he was (should have seen it coming with the full DLX kit and all that). Bombed the hill down to Ocean Beach going back to my mate’s for lunch feeling so stoked on the trick I had done and on meeting people like that. Skateboarding is really magical.

The day after that we went on a guided tour downtown. That shit is usually for tourists but it’s fine by me when it’s Ted Barrow showing you and your mate around. We met at St. Mary’s Square in Chinatown and Ted took us through the FiDi all the way down to the Embarcadero. The Cardiel ledge, Black Rock, China Banks… Homeboy told us a dope story or an interesting fact about every square inch of asphalt, concrete or marble we walked on. Such a friendly guy too. You know when you watch a new episode of This Old Ledge and really feel like woah I could totally watch two hours of that. Well, that’s exactly what that tour was. One of the most Willy Wonka moments of my life.

Blablabla, I could go on and on but I thought I’d share this with you. Might make a post with recommendations in the Travel thread. California is dope, those big redwoods are incredible and skateboarding is the shit.

* DM’d me on Insta the day after that and told me he finally got his trick, which took him 3 hours in the end. What a trooper. Not gonna mention the trick on here as it’s quite possibly an NBD.

Sorry if I didn’t word this very well. Autocorrect is acting crazy and the jet lag doesn’t help. :upside_down_face:

Yeah, quite surreal! And he knew about spots here in Switzerland and all that. So rad. You can book him for a tour through Airbnb which is what we did.

My mate is an architect and they went deep into certain things, I wonder what our conversations sounded like to non-skaters, haha.

Where abouts are you @franc ? We have a trip to Zurich 1-8 September. Meeting up with Bobaj and that crew

Absolutely. Top bloke. The trick he tried (and did!) was so rad too.

When I rolled away clean from the trick I filmed (after going through every toe drag or heel drag situation possible before that) I said That’s the one and he said Hell yeah, that was sick which makes the clip 250 times cooler to me, hahaha.

Oh, I forgot to mention it, it probably goes without saying but anything anyone ever did on the top bars at Miley is absolutely unreal. Physically extremely hard and also rather dangerous. You could totally die if you fell over the bar. So much respect for anyone that skated that.

The bank Elissa did that dope nosebluntslide on is super steep and really short too, eternal props to her for that (and everything else she did and does). She really is the best.
