Bigger than my legs

Climbing is a fun way of getting fit if you have a local centre. People tend to be sound too.

Just at the maternity wing once again, stoked but also terrified at the prospect of being a parent of a second young human come December this year!

I’ve been doing kettle bell workouts for the past couple months. I’m trying to put weight back on after losing a lot the past few years, but I equally hate gyms and know I’d just be throwing money away because I’d never go.

I’ve just been doing 20 mins, five times a week. Nothing crazy, but keeping it consistent and I’m already seeing some improvement. Not enough yet for other people to tell, but I can, so it is motivating.

I’ve been doing this (I don’t know the proper names):

  • 6 bent over rows
  • 6 just straight lift up to chest things (like a row but not bent over, and higher)
  • 6 swings
  • 6 single arm rows (6 for each arm)
  • 6 goblet squats where you then lift the kettle bell above your head when you stand up
  • Repeat 5 times

I’ve also got a pull up bar and do 10 pull ups each time I go to the bathroom. It soon adds up throughout the day.

I’m picturing a squat-pullup-evacuate, directly over the bowl, all in a single motion. Is this accurate

It’s a complex technique, not for beginners

Let me clarify, the pull up bar is on the way to the bathroom :joy:

Ive got a similar routine. Used to do you gym before work but with kids I don’t have the time so I’ve got a few kettle bells and dumbbells at home. I try and fit in a few 10-15 minute sessions a few times a day. Most days I end up getting about 40 mins in, which is enough o keep me in shape. Like @nedertron I’m just trying to not have stick arms and a beer gut, which I did in my early 30’s and wasn’t a good look. All I’m aim for is a bit of muscle tone, good core strength and the ability to pick my kids up with out keeling over. On top of that, I keep the diet pretty healthy on week days then slack off over the weekend. Metabolism goes to shit after 40.

Used to bang gym on the regs. 100kg bench press. Biebel style. Need to get back into it - got bored/burnt out on it last year and haven’t been in ages.

I’ve been doing a bit of strength training but just really to go alongside running because that’s what they say you really need to do. So I just hit the rower a few times a week and have some barbell and bodyweight exercises I try and do. It’s hard though, I actually look forward to a run so that doesn’t take any real discipline. But I do feel loads better for it to be fair. Also I’m 5’7" so need to not go too far into it, I think it’s even more easy to look ridiculous with big arms if you’re short.

Yeah I’m quite into gym now but have really neglected mobility so am concentrating on stretches…soon
