Stuff you've not seen but probably should have.

Crazy Belgian film, darkly funny.

Completely bonkers and impossible to convert the full complexity of the book to film but it was a decent effort.

Couldn’t get into Naked Lunch book, too much slang about homeless bumsex, in fact I didn’t know what the hell was going on. Film was rad from what I remember.
I wouldn’t say it was one of those popular things that everyone should have seen though.

Personal opinion - Man Bites Dog is amazing and very prescient but I don’t think I could enjoy it now as a parent.
Delicatessen is good but hard work, not what I’d call enjoyable.

Star Wars could be watched in the following order:

Rogue One
New Hope
Empire
Attack of the Clones
Revenge of the Sith
Return of Jedi

Then ignore the new ones and Solo and Phantom Menace.

I rewatched PM last month and yes, it’s still mostly a bloated, annoying and confusing child’s film about trade taxation. But, the pod race scene was still as fun as when I saw it as an 11 year old, and the lightsaber battle at the end against maul is still probably the best of the franchise

Darth Maul being in another film on that list makes no sense if you don’t watch Phantom Menace now.

Yeah… but that’s hardly going anywhere, so it’s a moot point

Haha… I guess it’s all subjective.

Lockdown finally got me to watch Band of Brothers, I’d always heard good things about it. Some strange cameos in it mind (Jimmy Fallon!?). It borders a little close to ‘Team America, fuck yeah!’ without going over the line. Some really great and harrowing scenes in it though.

It’s got an amazing cast actually:

Jimmy Fallon, Michael Fassbender, Stephen Graham, Colin Hanks, Tom Hardy, Damian Lewis, James McAvoy, Neal McDonough, Simon Pegg, David Schwimmer…

Must have been a great launch pad for some of these. Most were already pretty well established but by no means famous, with some exceptions

I remember watching it after just finishing Battlestar Galactica, and got all freaked out when Lee Adama appeared in a battle scene and it spun me out.

Any American War film is going to be pro Merican but Band of Brothers is really good regardless.

Not really. You should check out Full Metal Jacket.

And The Deer Hunter. And Letters From Iwo Jima, and Flags of Our Fathers, and Platoon, and Apocalypse Now. They’re all really good.

True, seen all of them apart from Flags…

If you’ve seen Letters you should watch Flags.

Has there ever been a pro Vietnam war film?

I wasn’t thinking of Vietnam, more the way they portray themselves in the world wars.

Parts of full metal jacket were filled where I done my basic training. The part where they are running through the camp and then where they have the big obstacle course.

I bought the sister / companion, The Pacific, box set to watch many moons ago, but still haven’t watched it yet.

I remember watching a few of the Sopranos (when Tony was having attacks?) but would definitely watch it again but don’t have any of the streaming services it’s on.

I can’t add Game Of Thrones / Lord Of The Rings to the ‘probably should have’ pile as I’m not interested.

Supposedly Stanley Kubrick was scared of flying so everything he made in was made in the UK.

Even the Moon Landings, haha.
