That was my point, I referenced two films that made the stories modern. Les was talking about films (which my reply was about) and you more TV dramas (right?), people seem to love The Crown mind, never watch it too.
This and as aforementioned, musicals, utter bollocks.
Screw you guys, Musicals are rad.
I cannot stand musicals
I hate musicals except Les Mis.
Blues Brothers was okay and Muppets, but as a rule, they’re awful.
Only ever really enjoyed Grease 2 and Muppets in Space.
Actually the South Park movie was a musical. That was good too, at the time.
How can you lot not have a soft spot for Mary Poppins or the Wizard of Oz, Musicals like that are fine as they’re not meant to be serious.
However the worst thing on this earth next to the greatest showman, is this new hamilton thing. Fuck me, both of them contain the worst produced music ever. Just a brickwall of positiveness with no dynamics. Also theatre peeps should not even attempt hiphop! Hamilton is the result. I have not even seen it, Mrs was watching it while I listened to headphones and I caught it here and there.
Miserable Les? sounds familiar.
Didn’t Isle do a Les Mis drop? Jensen must really be a fan too.
The Wicker Man, Muppet Christmas Carol, The Singing Detective + Pennies from Heaven (series), Willy Wonka, West Side Story, South Park, Team America, Blues Brothers, Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, Wizard of Oz and that one episode of Buffy are all wicked imho.
I also love it when films have a musical or music-hall/showman number. Like in Marx brothers films when Harpo starts playing his harp, the punk accordion orchestra in Holy Motors, lindy-hop in Hellzapoppin’, tap-dancing in Zatoichi, Caetano Veloso’s song in Hable Con Ella, or the “In Dreams” bit from Blue Velvet.
All these moments are super entertaining, often virtuosic and non-naturalistic, and they remind me that the film I’m watching isn’t this big abstract thing-block, but the product of concerted human effort and fun.
So I’ve heard it’s great and I’m dying to see the whole of Singin in the Rain just off the back of this guy:

Lol Mary Poppins
Sound of music is amazing.
My wife made me watch this recently because its one of her favourite ever and it is just shocking shit. Some of the songs sound like they were made up on the spot. Gave up well before the end.
Haha
Aye that’s bobbins.
Watching “A Prophet” tonight, looks ace.
Haven’t seen them…
Despite my hatred of musicals though, I did really enjoy La La Land. A lot.
