We need to send some sort of light entertainment decontamination team round your place. Give you the full clockwork orange treatment until you stop liking shite.
Clockwork Orange is pretty shite though. Oh I see what you mean.
In what way is it shite?
They talk all weird.
Just found it boring and felt amateur. Just didn’t feel any of it.
The book is incredible.
Christ. OK.
Found that annoying too.
I know I know, there is no hope.
Bet you hated the Trainspotting book.
Never read it.
I know, I was joking.
Yeah it’s very hard to get into but it’s deliberate.
It’s these teens speaking their own language and you are outsider looking in but you learn the slang as you go and end up understanding them on their level…ish.
It all depends on how it starts up to see whether I can handle the vocab, slang etc. I read City of Bohane earlier in the year and it was alright and heavy in slang but was an easy read. A little try hard in places but wasn’t enough to not finish it.
I have no idea what trainspotting is like though.
I’ve read trainspotting a few times. I like it a lot. That’s the review.
yeah, get that, and that’s cool. Didn’t grab me enough to persevere. Might have a different view if I forced my way through to break it. Didn’t help that I saw the film first and was hoping to redeem it. Same deal as Naked Lunch.
I wonder how the Clockwork film would of aged organically if it hadn’t had the self imposed ban hyping the need to see it through out the years? Isn’t the language spoken, a bit of Russian mixed with English to sound futuristic?
A Clockwork Orange is one of the few films I’ve seen that still lived up to the hype in terms of perceived shock value. I can 100% see why it was banned when it was originally released.
Kubrick banned it himself, not the film board. It was released again as soon as he died.
He banned his own film?
Maybe it wasn’t as successful initially as he hoped and saw that a cult status would help it along. Would make me dislike it more if there is any truth in that idea.
Or maybe he hated it himself?
