I really believe so too, it’s just too silly an idea to do seriously but in context of how he’s used it, it works, just enough to play with people. Gonna be fun watching the fallout.
I laughed out loud at this. In the office. At work.
It’s not good this one. Hopefully the last video we’ll see in this style. Time to kill it off.
Or, it’s good that somebody’s making something that looks different. Isn’t that how things progress?
Anyway I’d rather watch 2021 skateboarding at a jaunty angle than on VX any day.
Each to their own I guess. Most memorable video of 2021 for me was Tightbooth Security Level infinity and it was VX.
That thing with Nik Stain Max Palmer and Cyrus and AO and all that was VX and I loved it, but I’d really rather see these things properly now, than have them look like what videos used to look like 25 years ago.
Does it look that different anymore? I think Strobeck has been taken over by some of the younger filmers who copied his style and now do it a bit better than him. The tilt felt like a bit of a gimmick.
Respect to Palace for managing to move away from VX without losing their vibe…their video was sick…but the Supreme thing is not working for me.
Without being a tech nerd…VX on YouTube does not look the same as VX 25 years ago.
You can’t recreate it without a CRT TV. The way the image is made up…its different.
I reckon some people would be shocked at how good VX looks, displayed properly.
I always just found it funny that people are recreating an era with that look but for the most part, get it wrong.
/tangent.
It’s like adding crackles to an MP3 to make it sound more ‘real’.
Also that VX-without-CRT is what I was thinking about when I was talking about things looking sped up that time, I think.
I don’t want to fight in front of our children.
Also:

To play devils advocate (and also because I’m planning on doing it), how would you feel about a premier of a vx video played through a CRT
F’d that block quote up didn’t i
How big is your crt? Will it be wheeled out on a big trolly like at school?
I’m thinking just playing on loop on a normal to big sized tv, like a screen at a gallery and if you actually go to prems to enjoy and watch a video, you’ll gather round with your mates and watch it
Could have five people allowed to watch it at a time. We’re used to that shit now anyway.
That’s actually a sick idea.
I like the gallery vibe. Hang some art, etc.
You’d need to play it from tape/VHS or a DVD player tho.
Remember those 100” CRTs? Screens were shit but it’d still be better than modern screens with vx clips.
I reckon the best way would be to make a stack of TVs and play it through them all at the same time. Or dot them around the place. Have sofas. Mini fridges. Duvet covers.
Great times.
Christian at Spit and Sawdust skatepark does this all the time. Sometimes he plays them on multiple tiny black and white TVs.
Sounds like an art installation to me.
That’s very kind of you, but I think it would be too generous to call it an art installation.
These are some he did a while back…literally nobody watches them haha.

I couldn’t find a skate video showing on his ‘proper’ telly…only this:
Yeah multiple screens playing at the same time would be sick in a circle. 3D video premier. Look at a trick then over the top of the tv to see your mates reaction on the other side of the room
