The Christmas Thread ‘22

The changes to our house (internal layout, couple of steels and new kitchen etc etc) only finished on Thursday so it was getting a really stressful as it ran over a bit (in time and £’s) and was getting really close, but we’d just planned on Mrs, kids and myself anyway. Plus we’re all ill apart from my lad which is fucking shit, tested neg for Covid and actually worse than covid. I’ve half painted the new plaster and that will do. New sofa arrived on time after a couple of rearranged deliveries (cant grumble about JL, they’ve been great). Inlaws due boxing day, maybe my old man and sister day after I think. Not a big family. I’m tired.

I’m just getting drunk now, listening to Odd Nosdam and will hit Horizon Forbidden West for a bit. Santa job sorted a while back. Coffee machine is set for 7:30 so hopefully gonna spend the day cooking, eating, drinking and playing on the kids’ new Switch and watching a movie or two with the kids. Hopefully not shouting at them too much!

Happy Christmas all. Here’s to 2023 - May all your ollies be levelled and your tricks landed bolts.

My girlfriend bought me a sick little Weber gas bbq for our balcony. I bought the wrong type of gas cylinder for it. Stressing calling a the gas stations to see if they have the one I need. Waiting for an uber to get one now. Ughhhhh.

Hopefully I can rescue our lunch plans.

Very strange Christmas for me tbh. I never thought I’d see myself in this position, as some of you may know I’m learning a new profession right now, so haven’t earned a coin for exactly 2 years now. Also the wife has a tech startup but due to sea changes in crypto recently is struggling to raise money for the next round and we may have to start looking for jobs soon.

Long story short we’ve been burning through savings for the last 2 years.

We are staying at mother in law’s summer house over Christmas (she’s here along with my brother in law) and my family. We were honestly struggling justifying buying certain presents for the kids, and we only got each other a perfume each as gifts. Every single purchase now is like “can I afford this?” And never thought I’d be in this position at this stage in my life.

It’s not all grim when I take a step back we should be fine, I think we have enough savings to go another year before we have to start selling property, but it’s still an uncomfortable feeling, and I am aware that we are very lucky and in a better position than a considerable percentage of people around the world.

Add to that I am sick, the worst rattly cough for past 6 weeks and I felt like death last night, was in bed by 7pm. I’m just grumpy a Scrooge right now.

Sorry to moan everyone, I feel like this is the only place I can really let rip at the moment. The kids seem happy though (even though they are sick as well!) And they all got presents so happy days.

It’ll be fine, I’m sure, just needed to vent. Merry Xmas everyone!

Did you have to buy the new black one?

Whole state of bbqs in Australia with this switch to the new gas bottle is annoying.

I feel like Jez in the Christmas episode of Peep Show this morning. Everythings not quite how I have always celebrated Christmas having the in laws here. My brother in law has already annoyed me by saying he doesn’t wanna do presents yet as he doesn’t wanna feel like he is rushing all day… But he literally has nothing to do apart from get ready for church that he wants to go to in 2 hours time…

EDIT: We did the presents, and I’ve been massively spoilt and am over the strop I was in

Came within 10 seconds of turning our only bag of spuds into potato soup. Just about saved them.

My son came into our room and asked has he been for the first time and it just broke me. It’s just the purest, most innocent thing in the world.

Literally nearly died driving to my brothers, car started aquaplaining, I have no idea how I didn’t crash, was just drifting round a fucking corner for ages.

yikes, glad you’re ok

Please tell me ‘Driving home for Christmas’ was playing on the radio? Jokes-a-side glad you’re okay, stay safe people!

Good Christmas so far… at the parents letting them do it all, ha, a few of the family are getting together tomorrow, about 10 of us, so Boxing Day will feel more like the real deal.

I just had a go on Mario Kart.

One minute I was trying to remember how to do a boost start, the next I was facing a wall and my Son was telling me to wake up.

The switch is bloody fantastic and Mario Kart is still just as fun as the original on the SNES. I have no kids but still got one a while back, so much fun!
