The Computer/Software/Marketing Help Thread

Thanks, that’s helpful. I might be lucky for them to agree to half that, but good to know the ballpark.

Might have to go a bit lower but say copy amends only, design is what you get sort of thing.

I’d go 1k minimum but start at 1500 for roughly same spec that Ciaran said

One of my monitors died so needed a new one. Thought I might as well treat myself to a little upgrade and go for something a bit bigger. Didn’t check how it would look and I’m sure I’ll get used to it but I feel like I’m working in the front row of a fucking IMAX.

What did you get I need a new one

Nothing remarkable, just a 32” curved thing from Amazon that seemed to have okay reviews seems like there’s loads that are similar:

It’s fine, colours seem good etc. Not a massive gamer so refresh rates and all that aren’t much concern but it sounds like it would be okay there too. Stand doesn’t have any vertical adjustment if that matters.

Is anyone familiar with Bricks builder for Wordpress? Our work website has just been rebuilt with it and I’m trying to change a background image that I can’t for the life of me find the source for. If anyone’s up for logging in and having a look I’d be thankful as it’s making me want to smash things

Any kind of site builder is usually a total nightmare for changes.

Which is ironic, as the companies offering to use them usually sell their benefits as being the ease you can change things.

Happy to take a look as I did a lot of WordPress in a previous life. Probably easiest to dm me the details and go from there.

Has anyone tried a Nothing phone?

Contemplating getting one once this iphone dies.

Sadly I’m forever locked in to Apple.

I did recently buy a pair of the Nothing ear buds though, and am really pleased with them

Me too re: apple

Kind of want an alternative.

Breaking out of apple is worth the switch. It was the headphone jack for me, final straw

My current android cost £70, does everything you’d need

WhatsApp is harder to quit, everyone is onthere, apart from a few weird / hip / paranoid / dealers on Telegram

Love the design (I have some Nothing ear buds). Considered getting one but the battery life on a OnePlus 15 got me instead.
I love the idea of the other notification screen built in but I don’t think it would be genuinely useful. Especially once it’s in a case. I need less notification mechanisms, not more.

I switch all mine off.

I might be a bit late to see something but I check my phone enough not to miss anything.

For ages now and because I really don’t care that much about phones and because Apple are Michael Fabricants (yeah, I know Google are too but they don’t want as much of my money) I’ve always just got the “a” variant of whatever Pixel phone is out once every three years or so. Google always have a good trade in deal so it usually ends up costing around £200 for the upgrade. I figure £70 a year to always have a fast, reliable phone is okay and there is literally fuck all else that anything more expensive would do. Also because there’s no additional UI layer running on top of Android everything always just seems to work with no fuss and they always stay up to date without stuff breaking.

I know you’re talking about android, but for a long time this is what Apple was known for, but in recent years, especially on their computer side it’s noticeably gone downhill. Too much focus on phones.

Their latest OS is awful, completely over designed for no reason - this stupid ‘liquid glass’ effect on the UI has slowed my 5 year old MacBook Pro right down. I updated my iPhone 13 mini the other day, it now gets really hot and the battery vanishes with minimal use.

Also, I’ve got the Studio Display, only 3 years old, was like £1300, and it’s starting to get screen burn.

It might be rose tinted but I was thinking about how apple keep churning out new phones to push consumerism. If I want to do something to help the environment, I was thinking maybe not supporting apple was a start.

I’d like to fuck all computers off but i’m tied to apple now with Logic. Although i’m happy to sit back and use older macs and just keep them clean. Still running Mountain Lion on the studio imac, El capitan on house music laptop, neither on internet and then Monterey on the house laptop for normal use. It’s useful to have iphone to link up with missus and laptop to airdrop music sketches and take photos of kids etc. But in recent years I feel like “fuck apple”. So strange to feel like you need a Michael Fabricant around you. Being institutionalised isn’t a great feeling but that’s life.

They release phones yearly just like everyone else.

Just like car companies release cars yearly
Just like football teams change shirts yearly
Etc
Etc

The thing with phones is, unless you buy the really cheap ones, anything now can and should last you 3+ years. Biggest problem is really battery technology and the fact that daily charging eventually degrades battery health which leads to degraded performance.
