I thought it was something to do with his wife and her not having a wristband and the women running the food just wanted her to get/show her wristband and she pulled a “don’t you know who I am” and he got pissed off?
The riots happened in the couple of years I was working for Sidewalk.
I remember writing the article (which was ran as a single page of text alongside a photo of the riot fire, IIRC) and talking to @anonymity about how we run it.
It wasn’t a favourable article in respect of the organisers.
It It ended up being run with no name attached to the text and the organisers were onto the ad sales guy to find out who wrote the piece as they were pissed.
It was all very fair, though.
They basically sell a shitload of tickets, hire in the cheapest skateable stuff they can find (a BMX jump ramp course) and put 1/10th of what was the usual prize purse in Europe up for grabs. It was before the music side really ramped up and from what people told me, it was basically seen as a cheap festival for anyone who lived within an hour to show up at, get completely fucked and run riot.
Even before that shit kicked off, people were talking like it was going to explode.
That was the last time I went. Only thing I ever feel like I have missed was Stu shitting on the ‘street’ course.
Boardmasters was similarly invested in by the same people - although to be fair, that was always meant to be about the surf contest which was a five star world event. So, the surf was quite fairly the focus.
And as there wasn’t everyone camping, there wasn’t that pressure cooker about to explode.
Although they lost their ranking a few years back on that, too so maybe the surf gang will say the same?
And maybe the skate side got better in recent years?
I don’t know.
I don’t really care, either. There are far better things to be supporting nowadays.
Yep, his missus got told she couldn’t have anything for free because she didn’t have a band on, she pulled the ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ line and Auntie Ince went, ‘No, we don’t’.
Mike V was summoned and the table was toppled. They couldn’t even kick him out because Don and Danielle Bostick from World Cup Skateboarding said they’d pull the funding if he wasn’t there.
Yeah that’s the extended version.
Like I said ‘acting like an entitled wanker’
Someone got fucking stabbed that year. My friend had to go to court as a witness.
There were 2 years where riots happened , the big one in 2007 and a smaller one in 2003/4 iirc. The first year they had an outdoor stage for bands and therapy headlined .
The 2003/4 one kicked off because security pretty much beat up and dragged a 13/14 year old off in front of a crowd one evening cos he ripped an event/band banner off the wall. Then it kicked off. Not anything like the 2007 riots luckily.
2007 was mad, huge fire.
NASS was where I realised no man can keep up drinking with Tom Watts
I might have them on a HD will have a look and post if I find them
Cheers Anon.
Christ, everyone is very good these days
Deeyo telling the story in the boozer after a night skate the other year was priceless
That’s who I got it from. He definitely tells it well, but can’t really quote him directly because of the forum’s anti-swear function.
Mike V was lucky he didn’t get a Northampton kicking from Dee et al that day.
Would’ve done wonders for his skateboard hard man image
Can anyone give potted recap of the story?
Basically this. The Ince aunties and girlfriends were doing the food. Free if you’ve got a pass, you’re paying if you don’t.
ah for some reason I got mixed up with DeeSB, ignore me
You mixed up DeeSB with Mike V?
Wow.
Let me pull up some references whilst I try to understand…
Dee:
Mike V:
Is it because DeeSB rhymes with MikeV? that’s the only way I can understand this.
Do you also confuse Tony T with them, too?
No you fucking comedian, Deeyo and DeeSB
Prime opportunity to use cult of mike v insta link missed there, buddy
