Tampa represents the old-school, male-dominated culture of skateboarding. Not necessarily a bad thing, I wouldn’t say they’re overtly misogynistic and there are elements of that culture we all probably quite like, but it is at odds with contemporary skateboarding’s emphasis on inclusivity.

They did have a women’s category at least once maybe twice… 2020 it happened for sure. Don’t know why they canned it after giving it a go.
Just checked - looks like 2020 was the only time and that was covid year. Weird.

was that the one where the 1st place ladies was way less that 1st place mens and it started a bit of a heated discussion?
$2,500 for the women’s first place prize compared to $10,000 for the men.
At least there is an official comp that all genders can compete together. Probably one of the only major comps . It may not fit the current contest criteria but at least someone is doing it .
And i genuinely look forward to the day that women are skating tampa pro and in the finals . It will show how much skating has progressed.
Imagine the buzz from this weekend if Chloe covell, Rayssa and Yumeka got to the semifinals or finals . It’s totally possible and would be great to watch .
Yeah but I think we also saw the Olympic effect as mentioned before , people staying away from contests that could put them out of the only important contest in the world
Tampa pro needs a rework, such a boring lead up with all the qualifiers featuring every Tom, Dick and Rodrigo that’s figured out how to print a board with their name on it.
Also… it’s supported by some of the worst companies. Especially the ones that still use promo girls
