Yeah so feel he’s tried to take matters into his own hands and been very vocal about the whole hippie/psychedelic lifestyle thing and it’s not done him any favours. Either people are indifferent to it or its put them off him, can’t see it making anyone like him more its all just a bit cringe plus all those KOTR antics have stuck with him.
No doubt amazing skateboarder but should’ve maintained an air of mystique
Ok ‘should’ve kept his mouth shut and let his skating do the talking rather than try and create a persona around himelf’
Majority of the time when I hear people mention him (irl not on forums) it’s ‘yeah he’s good but…’ then some mention of all the pretentious shite he talks
I think it takes a certain level of maturity to realise that only ever telling stories about how fucked up you were last night is possibly the most bone thing ever for the listener.
He did this pretty rad thing where he refused to get hotels and camped on tours instead. Probably a massive headache for the TM, but if there was more to it than some stoner mentality, that could have been a pretty interesting angle for him…like, is he interested in the planet on a level beyond doing peyote in the desert?
I think you’re going slightly OTT there, I liked what he had to say about the value of video parts and it shows in his output which is very high. I can’t say I’ve heard that many people complain about what he has to say.
Yeah if was just that then cool but he always tries to add some fake ‘deep’ angle to it when really he’s just a bit thick, like what he’s doing is above your usual guy on the street when in reality he’s just in some incredibly privileged position to be paid to ride a skateboard. He just reminds me of some first year uni student
Just quotes like this from his Thrasher interview makehim insufferable to me:
Yeah, there’s so much that people just don’t understand. Like you said, people don’t know that we go back to those spots, like, four times sometimes just to get one clip for a video part that’s four minutes long. That’s a crazy concept. People go to their deaths and they type stuff into a computer and somebody else gives them a thumbs up and that’s the extent of their life. Skateboarding is an insane lifestyle that’s unlike anything else and it has a crazy tight family vibe. I’ve got your back to the fuckin’ grave, Cole. Anything that happens between me and you in our lives, I’d jump in front of a bus for you. Coworkers, they don’t say that shit to each other, but I mean that to you. I think skating is the only industry that I’ve seen that has that.
He seems like a genuinely nice dude and all power to him if he likes psychedelics, I just think that he looks grubby and that it does not look nice on a board. He’s unreal at skating though so most of the time his getup gets a pass but it’s knife edge shit.
Like That Ryan Reyes dude, not sure that you have to become this whole hippy package thing when you find psychedelics. It’s hard not to want to tell the world about them so I can see why they have had this whole angle used as a promo tool.
Don’t have expectations just for me to be 100% into a skater I’ve either got to be ignorant to what they’re like or into them as a person and their views
You’re just not the type of person he’s talking about though, he’s right, there are millions of simple people out there that don’t have a thought past their bubble.
You can’t assume everyone is on the same level as you to judge how he’s judging others. You’re not in America amongst the real people there, it must be mind boggling, just like if you go into a social/labour club in some scummy place here, you’re going to hear some insanely stupid conversations and viewpoints.
He just looks a bit stinking on a board. Something about his style that isn’t for me. He’d also fit in nicely with Dixon, Figgy and the rest of the ‘need a good wash’ gang.
I just watched his latest edit yesterday. Christ! What the fuck is going on with wearing the same unwashed white yoga pants for the entire edit?? It looked like he had literally shat himself. God knows what he must have smelt like?
Ender was mad! What was unnecessary was the 2 minute introduction to the part.
You’d think Element having a rider who’s into this whole hippie/outdoors/nature vibe would work for them in terms of marketing given Element’s marketing and art direction in the past, but it shows they don’t really know what direction they’re taking anymore. Also, the kids aren’t really taking psychedelics anymore so the whole dirty druggy approach isn’t particularly marketable or mainstream in the days of clean living and hashtagsquatsnotshots.
Skateboarding is a dirty, sweaty, ‘done on the scummy streets’ activity. Trying to look clean and fresh runs completely counter intuitive to the activity itself.
