I read that Thrasher interview. I dunno…His dad came across okay. Kinda. Bit of a twerp, but definitely not stepping over any line.
I tried to watch this video but it just came across like some bitchy keyboard warrior bullshit. Ended up switching it off…
Is there any footage of his dad acting super pushy? It just looks to me like a very excited version of supportive.
Kinda feel like people are pretty quick to shut down any parent who is excited that their kid is doing shit.

I’ve read dozens of stories from people who’ve seen them at skateparks of how he shouts at and berates him for not doing well enough. I doubt they’re all making it up

I mean if you’re repeatedly doing that to your kid then you’ve kind of lost the middle ground. Also he’s not going to go on the record in Thrasher about how he bullies his child

Of course he is going to paint himself in the best light in Thrasher; but he quite specifically addresses - and opposes - the two things @anon86856945 mentioned.
…but I am also wary about what I read on Slap because some of those posters are just triggered dudes and unless things are coming from a handful of accounts on there, I always take it with a pinch of salt.

I god hope they cancel the Olympics next year and drop it for good. That will help stop some of these type of parents. If there is that level of recognition and status in an Olympic gold, this kind of shit will thrive . I bet you ask plenty of pushy parents why they got their child on a deck and they’ll deep down say “potentially the Olympics” especially as it’s not flooded with kids like many other sports.
I’ve never been a fan especially watching sheckler grow up and be a prime example of an exploited kid.
I prefer the skaters who’s parents think skating is shit and not a career.

Get rid of the 1-foot boardslide and whatever that final trick was and it’s a good part.
I was expecting him to flip out of the handstand. Wish he had, though maybe that’s too close to full freestyle. Never go full freestyle
