We still live on the European continent, some people just voted to ignore the rest of the people that live on it too, haha.

No we don’t there’s that big puddle in the way!

I think that puddle has been the problem all along, if it wasn’t there we’d probably be way friendlier with the euros. If I had my way we’d fill it in.

What do people make of these collaborations between these small, new brands and the big shoe companies?

They strike me as kind of interesting. The big shoe company gets to exploit the cultural capital and coolness that these small brands have spent years and lots of hard work building up without having to do the pesky work of fully sponsoring a lot of the small brands’ riders. The small brand almost acts as a creative agency for the shoe company, with the big brand (hopefully) bankrolling their creative endeavours. Is this exploitative? Or does the money and free shoes make up for it?

Seems like a new way of sponsoring people - hook up or flow a whole (or most of) a crew without having to put them on any official team or pay them a salary. Use them for piecemeal content and one-off collaborations. Bin them more easily if needed. Seems like a hollowed out version of sponsorship which reflects the causal and precarious employment pattern of the gig economy.

Are we going to see more and more of this in the next few years? Are the big brands moving away from fully hooking people up and having a conventional team? Am I reading too much into this?

Frog are crap. I can’t stand that willful shitness with their persistance with MS Paint graphics. That villiage idiot side of the industry which includes Heroin, Tired, Fancy Lad and Last Resort is really try-hard, fake, conceited crap for me.
Never heard of Carpet Company.
Zero interest in collabs anyway.

Defo give Carpet a shot, they’re a lot more focused on the design side of what they make and I really do feel that they add something to the market that doesn’t exist. All the boards that get shipped to Welcome have the shop name engraved on the top and everything they do is hand screen printed, they do some dope one-offs too. I would say they’re a lot more of a mature company than the other ones you mentioned as I feel the same about them!

Always wanted this board as a wall hanger but didn’t have the money at the time
