Just watched the Santa Cruz video; didn’t find the music bad per se, like I would’ve probably enjoyed the songs if they’d come on separately on 6 music on a Saturday afternoon, just a set of really odd choices for a skate video. What I took issue with was the editing. So kooky with all the graphics, extraneous cuts, weird half-replays cut in, “more is less” in action.
At least it had all their names before the sections though.
The skatepark I grew up skating has finally been updated. Made this little piece to celebrate it, some of the footage is 15 years old, some of it is 15 days old…
as usual with these things, reverse the roles and see how it flies. if a guy had a single clip of a 50-50 on a normal ledge you’d be like “wtf?” so i think your opinion is fine here
But at the same time there was loads of sub par tricks from mates in that new 917 vid and have been in loads of videos through the years. I didn’t see it as a problem personally, the edit didn’t come across as trying to be the most cutting edge of skateboarding. Not every edit has to be the pinnacle of what people can do.
I guess the question would be, why is she getting hooked up if her level is not up there with other sponsored girls? Is that not misrepresenting the level in which girls are skating? I dunno, we all know there are unspoken tiers of sponsorship.
I think it’s fine for adidas to hook that girl up and include her 50 in the video but, as Max says, more context is needed. That clip didn’t exactly do her justice. A few additional tricks would have been good to see her level and style.
I have no problem if she isn’t especially good. Enough subpar male skaters have been hooked up before.
