Made In America from the film soundtrack (of the same name) on Zee 100, a scouse pirate radio station
But their first(?) single got a massive extra global push to the exact audience they’re looking for.
Questionable for me.
Oh true, IIRC Grab the girl (sorry, we’re talking over 30 years ago so I can’t remember the track name and my tapes are in the loft) which I think was on first FTC would have helped no doubt at all, but they had a 5/5 review in Hip Hop connection (not sure about the Source) and the people into Hip Hop outside of skating that I knew were into them too.
No doubt would have given them a boost but people into Hip Hop at the time would have had Hiero on their radar no doubt.
Edit - Thrasher also ran an interview with them. Could be the Cardiel fire ring cover.
Del and De La on that video, but no Souls of Mischief.
Mr Dobalina off the first album was pretty massive. First album I had was No Need for Alarm which was sick. Just bought it cos the cover was dope,
I’ll have to double check that they were on first FTC soundtrack haha!!
Ha, see above!
I want to say the first FTC was at the same time as the second Del album. They had him on the cover of the vid.
That’s Del’s art
I know this might be sacrilege but I have never got El-P production, I don’t like it.
My favourite Del track is probably ‘Worldwide’ or ‘No More Worries’.
Wow. Not thought of that name in a long, long time.
While we are on the crate digging subject…
I spent so fucking long looking for the Casual Me-O-Mi-O tune from SHS. It’s the Domino mix. Took years to find.
And yeah, 20 Shot…HMV import for £19 to get Time for sum Aksion.
I think there are quite a few things like that…
Tell a lie…the hmv import was just because I wanted it on CD after owning the vinyl.
This is how I first got it (from black market records):
…and then I got the full Whu Thee Album on vinyl for about £11 new.
And then the HMV import cd.
That song cost me £40 in total. Damn.
And then I also bought all the others, went to see method man live.
20 Shot costing £25 turned out to be quite the money pit, eh?
Nah, forgiven. About 20-25 years I was sat there with a mate of mine smoking and listening to various Def Jux stuff and we both laughed agreeing that El P can be hard work.
I bought a Cannibal Ox album years ago and listened to it a fair bit but in the end i had to accept I wasnt enjoying it. Now I have Spotify and access to all the music in the world I haven’t thought about or searched for Cannibal Ox once and it’s only talking to you now that reminded me of it!
Oh - just need to mention that Hiero were the first crew to run a website with a shop in the late ‘90’s.
Also into Duck Down (Black Moon, Smif n Wessun, Sean Price, Rock etc etc), but I don’t recall those guys having much in skate vids.
Waffling now, nice bit of memory lane to cheer me up there.
LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!
Worth every penny.
