Oh fuck. I love this time of year. Thanks SOTY hype
Some hilariously trendy tricks in this:
Must watch the Toy Machine vids.
I’ve still not seen Vans Propeller yet.
enjoyed every section of this so far !
this is absolutely ruthless
Biased perhaps because I love toy machine but it’s been a really good video for what is probably a “smaller” company
That Axel section was well good!
Axel part is crazy.
Axel’s certainly come a long way from that kooky piece he did for the Formula 1 coverage as a “skateboard world champion” to show how steep Eau Rouge is; toe dragging all the way down.
I’ve spent the last 5 minutes trawling for footage but it appears it’s gone forever.
This part was rad, full of unexpected tricks on original spots. Even his handrail footage was fresh. I really liked the mirrored boardslides to fakie nosewheelies and the backtail gap to backtail.
He’s certainly come a long way since skating the Basel comps as a toddler back in the day.
The only thing I didn’t like was how they changed his name to make it accessible to your average 'murican customer. Fuck that. Fuck that.
True, but I guess it helps the skater in a way - if they’re more marketable they’ll sell more boards.
It worked for PLG, Wiener etc
Brutal. I wish Thrasher would learn how to save videos in actual HD, I mean my phone is better quality than this
I suppose the hegemony of English as a global language bothers you less than others as a native speaker.
It’s funny when you point something like that out, but yes quite the opposite to being bothered by it, I think a lot of English people take pride in it.
Oh really? I didn’t know that as my British and American mates always seem embarrassed by it when we talk about it.
Or maybe they just lie so we can change the subject.
It’s embarrassing in the same way Imperialism is embarrassing. It implies power and influence that Britain…or specifically England in the case of the language…no longer wields. So I think a lot of people also feel embarrassed that they benefit from past glories in the form of being able to get away with being lazy and monolingual.
However I think the majority of people also feel that the English language is one of our major contributions to the world.
Rodrigo Teixeira is another one Americans couldn’t handle and had to change it.
I never got this one, at least with Weigers last name you could understand the practicalities of an American kid not being able to pronounce it. But Teixera isn’t exactly difficult to pronounce
It’s pronounced Tay-shay-ra.
wow i’ve been calling him tex-era for years. don’t think i’ve ever heard anyone actually pronounce his name
discovered the Irish Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher yesterday. apparently his first name is like Kevin “Kweeveen”
