The hobbiest hobby

I think this thread probably needs renaming?

this paint job is sick!

But where’s his head??

Painting separately because it’s a bit awkward to reach all the details with it glued in!

That looks sick.

I finally started on my first ever 40k paint job this weekend, it’s much harder than the YouTube tutorials led me to believe. Fun though, and I’m learning a lot.

For example, plan your colour scheme first so you don’t end up repainting sections 3 times. Think I also went on too heavy with the undercoat so the base colour is much darker than intended. And my dry brushing technique needs a lot of work - it’s very messy but cba repainting and doing it again.

Thing with dry brushing is to have absolutely fuck all paint on your brush and try to just hit the edges with the tip of your bristles. You can always go back and add more but you can’t take it off. I have a bit of Lego undercoated to try my brush on before I put it to the model so I know what’s going to happen before I commit. You can also just use the edge of the base rim though, as it’ll get painted over eventually.

This one involved a lot of very incremental dry brushing and it’s really satisfying to watch it build from the first pass doing absolutely nothing to a steadily built up highlight on the edges.

Something I do after a wash is go back over with the base colour, I try and keep out of the recesses and corners though so you still get the effect you want from the wash. It can feel quite tedious painting over the same bit again

Calling this one done, really nice kit and tried a few new things, some worked, others not so much.

Thanks, will give that a try.

That’s a great kit. Nice work! Really lovely weathering.

Thanks man, I have a real problem knowing when to stop with weathering. I wouldn’t want my giant future, laser-sword wielding flying mechs to start to look unrealistic. But since this one is a ground unit figured it could take it.

Uploading another photo of the wolves because the other is too dark.

Best thing about the warhammer shop in brussels is that they let people play in the store. Turned up on sunday and witnessed a fun 3v3 3000point battle go down.

Somewhat happier. Good advice.

Noice! Waaaaaah!

Nice work.

Working on a little ork squad at the moment too. The little fuckers have far too many details though. Gonna take an age.

Made my own tabletop with stuff I found in the street. Currently halfway through a combat patrol match up between adepta sororitas and genestealers.

Finished painting up some trogoths and built my first seraphim.

This one looks like she has a good 360 flip. That would be jokes to add little skateboards to them…
