Got around to reading the Amir Williams interview today. Can’t imagine how hard it must be to skate after losing eyesight as an adult. Skating is hard enough as it is with being blind even from very young (I lost my left eye at 18 months or so due to retinoblastoma) so losing eyesight at 39 must have been crazy.
I can relate to not being able to see your board (I’m also goofy and left eye is mine too). Kind of a pointless topic but always difficult to explain to my mates that some backside tricks are literally done, well, completely blind and through feel.
Don’t really know what the point is here. Interesting Amir mentioning balance when returning. Mine is fucked every time I take some time off and it takes a couple of weeks to come back but I’ve always put that down to just not skating. Maybe it is related to the blindness.
Also had so many conversations over the years - ‘is it just like seeing black?’, ‘nah, can’t see anything, so it’s literally nothing. I can see from here to here, peripherally’.
I hope his remaining eye stays good for him. I fucking dread anything happening to mine, one of those worst nightmare scenarios.

It’s sick; didn’t really know that much about him prior bar him being gnarly. Always thought he might be a bit Street League/Hop King vibes but he came across like a proper skate rat and in it just to do gnarly stuff for himself. Seems like a rad dude.

He did come across as a skate rat. The bit about warming up at skateparks and taking sandwiches so he doesn’t have to stop before hitting the gnarly spots was pretty cute.

Honestly he is. The weird passive aggressive negativity directed towards him is unjustified and borders on bullying given his ADHD diagnosis and clear SEND status.
Yeah he can be annoying at times but who isn’t?

That’s sad to hear. Not got around to reading the whole thing, just snippets so far (no offence!). Pics speak to themselves.
Unfortunately low key bullying, snideyness and being taken advantage of seems to be common when it comes to people with SEND.

I guess I’ve been involved in SEND stuff over the last 5 years so it’s just become normal to me 
Never heard of it before.
Asked my 21 year old and he hadn’t either.
He had heard of princess diana though.

I had to google and even that didn’t seem particularly enlightening. Assume it’s education trick terminology.
