Been Tignes loads of times definitely the best all round resort tbh, maps huge and always good fun. Only way you’re saving money on a ski trip during school holidays is to drive but then you’re sacrificing multiple days for travelling

Yeah looked at that but from York it’s about 20 hours and £900 of diesel and channel tunnel costs. Tignes sounds good though, thanks.

Yeah sack that, did it a couple times (last time was probs 2014) and it wasn’t much fun

+1 on Tignes/ Val D’Isere for general radness, but no idea about kids pricing there. Proper ski-in / ski-out from some of the apartments onto the chair lifts, which was rad.

My sisters going Zakopane in poland next year, meant to be cheap and plenty to do she says. Maybe worth a look!

We went out of school holidays to reduce cost but it was still gnarly and still so busy that it took something like seven hours from the airport to the ski resort and hotels. The kids ski school vary massively in quality. My eldest was really small at the time and ended up in a school that spoke very little English. Had a really shit time

Went to Jasna in Slovakia one year. Was super cheap with new ski lifts and pretty quiet on the slopes compared to the alps. Worth a look, not much to do when not skiing mind.

London heads:

I’m taking my wife away for our first grown up long weekend since we had kids. Nine long years. We’re gonna do London from Friday afternoon to Monday lunch. I’m looking to cram in as much as possible. Any recommendations for:

  • comedy clubs
  • more unusual shit like Crystal Maze, rollerdisco, ice bar, etc
  • wicked food places (street food or high end)
  • art stuff
  • music venues

Thanks

For food: Dans le noir is fun for couples I reckon. A good experience in itself and makes you appreciate more.

I haven’t been to Dans le noir but I took my sister to a similar place in Zürich and it was awesome.

I haven’t been to London in 4 years and am not super up-to-date with what’s cool but here’s a few suggestions…

  • The Saatchi Gallery in Sloane Square if you guys are into art exhibitions, the shows there are always dope

  • Tate Modern for modern art too of course

  • The Natural History Museum in South Kensington is always great

  • Brixton Village has good cafés and restaurants if you’re in that area, I love Fish, Wings & Tings (Carribean food), Santaferino (Colombian food) and Honest Burgers

  • Kiln in Soho for dope Thai food cooked over fire and good cocktails

  • Mikkeller Bar in Shoreditch if you want a good taproom

  • I haven’t been to Lahpet but they make Burmese cuisine and Burmese cuisine is fantastic. They have 3 restaurants (West End, Shoreditch, Bermondsey)

Strong recommendation would be to chat to your wife and just make sure she’s up for the same level of cramming, or adjust expectations to a level you’re both happy with.

Having just had a night away with the wife, the best part was uninterrupted conversations without kids constantly vying for attention. Everything else paled in comparison.

Such good advice. On my first holiday away with a girlfriend when I was early 20s, I was such a dickhead because is wasnt the same as the skate holidays i’d been on before.

Yeah when I first went to Barcelona I couldn’t believe Mrs G didn’t want to sit at Macba and drink Damm Lemons all day.

I did take her to Manolo’s and holy shit that place is dark :joy:

I was lucky, I was on my Honeymoon in Barca, missus sat reading at Macba and kids trying to feed her lychees while I was skating. chatted to Leo Sharp and he couldn’t believe I was getting away with it. Travelled out to look for the Fondo hop spot, turned the wrong way out of the station and walked that whole area before finding it on the way back to the station. She was all cool. We did go to Prague straight after for a few nights in the snow though, luckily snowing otherwise it’d be another day at Letna.
We’re divorced now, ha.

Heading to Seville next month with the lady and our young lad.

Should be ok to get about by bike, might go to a local skatepark, will end up playing street football with the boy every day but nothing planned and no accommodation booked as yet.

Any pointers and tips on places to check out/avoid, things to do / don’t, all that sort of thing.. let me know.

Depends how long you’re there but you could squeeze in a day trip to Cordoba, Ronda, or Cadiz. All very doable. Also caminito del rey but you have to get tickets and can be fully booked and literally a bit of a trek.

Thanks, will investigate

Have booked a few days in Bordeaux start of May

Has anyone been recently - any tips on food / wine / spots etc?

Been looking through here

Magenta store looks good: MAGENTA BORDEAUX STORE - Magenta Skateboards

& there’s some UFO stuff about…

Might try Biarritz via train too.

If you can find it, check out Rick Steins Long Weekend episode on Bordeux
