Is it simple enough to use?

Yeah it’s very straight forward to set up. Once you’ve added an eSIM you can just toggle between them in mobile service settings on iPhone.

The good thing is you’re good to go as soon as you land.

I used that in NYC last month. Really simple and better price that my normal network

Coverage was pretty much spot on the whole week all across the city.

Do you buy a chunk of data in advance or just pay local charges as you go?

Just download the app and buy the plan you want. There’s lots of different data options depending on how much you’ll need. I got 30gb for £25 and used about 10gb the whole week so that was probably a bit unnecessary. I was on Google maps loads and other stuff out and about everyday. 5G service pretty much all the time.

Really simple to set up and connect and by the time you’ve got through the awful drawn out US border control at the airport it will be ready to use

If you’re travelling on an ESTA you should be able to use an app called Mobile Passport Control to speed up getting through some US airports.

I was on a work visa on my last trip to NYC and it took five hours to get through but people with the app sailed through ffs

Cheers, I will have a look at Saily. Sadly not an NYC trip, I’m very overdue one of those…

Thanks so much for that, I’d had a quick look at it and thought it was only for returning visitors. But from the sound of it you just fill everything in on the app which you can do before you go then on arrival at JFK should be able to connect to WiFi with E Sim take a selfie there join the relevant queue then use the app and passport to get through and I think they thumb print you or something. Any way should reduce waiting time, cheers.

eSIM switched on and primary off just before landing.

You have to take a photo of your passport for MPC but it works seamlessly in low light

I did mine when the plane landed and every twat does the stand up thing for 14 mins before they can leave.

Whole thing processed before I was off the plane.

TSA guy just took our passports, asked our names and we were though.

Can I ask how long did you have to queue for after getting off the plane please and what time did you land ? Thanks

About 10-15 mins, landed at 7, last flight in.

Might go Birmingham skating tomorrow any spot recommendations ? Bournebrook, what else ? Cheers

Recommandations for San Francisco and Northern California while I remember what I really liked during my recent trip there…

SKATE SPOTS

  • Fort Miley: legendary spot. No longer a bust. You can park for free at the Veterans Affairs center next to it most days.
  • UN/Civic Center: good fun. Muni to Civic Center. Tons of weirdos around, don’t leave your stuff in a bag on a bench or something, try to go there with as little stuff as possible and keep it in your pockets ideally.
  • South San Francisco skate plaza: really good. Fair amount of parking spots close. You can skate pretty freely there, no need to worry about people stealing your shit. Bring some wax, just in case.
  • Pier 7: pretty unskatable these days really.
  • Embarcadero/Ferry Building/The Island: quite unskatable these days too. The ledge that goes over the double set in still skiable though. Pretty safe area.
  • Great Highway skatepark: fun for a minute if you are in that area. Pretty safe area. It can be pretty windy down there.
  • Waller: good fun. Look after your stuff, ideally skate with your shit in your pockets.

SKATESHOPS

  • Deluxe (Mission Street): excellent choice and welcoming staff.
  • Atlas (San Mateo): excellent too. Highly recommended.
  • Bill’s Wheels (Santa Cruz): skater owned and run since 1977. Good selection, good sale rack.

BARS/BREWERIES

  • Toronado (Lower Haight): rad dive bar with 51 beers on tap. Jukebox. Cash only but there’s an ATM inside.
  • Russian River (Windsor, Sonoma County): this is where the famous Pliny the Elder is brewed. Loads of good beers and good food. Beer garden.
  • Sante Adairius (Santa Cruz): quite expensive but really good beers here too.
  • Alvarado Street (Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea): good food and next level sour beers. Really good IPAs and all that too.

FOOD

MUSEUMS/NATURE ETC

  • This Old Ledge tour with Ted Barrow: awesome, obviously. Book it through Airbnb.
  • Rodeo Beach to Hill 88 hike (Marin County): lovely hike with stunning views on the Pacific coast and the Bay.
  • Big Sur: drive south from Monterey, stop everywhere on the side of the road, feel awesome, take pictures. See big redwoods at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. 10 dollars for the day. The Henry Miller Library is close too, can’t miss it, if you’re into his stuff.
  • Ano Nuevo State Park (Pescadero, San Mateo County): home to a large colony of Northern Elephant Seals. These guys are pretty rad.
  • MoMa: you know. Always good.
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium (Monterey): pricey but really good. Book your tickets in advance. Go there as late as you can so you’ll avoid families. Avoid the cafe, everything is overpriced.
  • Charles M. Schulz Museum (Santa Rosa): very nice! Go there if you like cartoons.

Did you skate Derby while passing through Santa Cruz?

Not this time but I did in 2014.

Skated Capitola skatepark this time.

Going to Korea tomorrow, any tips?

If you play golf with Kim Jong Un let him win.

Made it to NYC stoked!

There’s a Theories demo 10 minutes away from my apartment on Sunday.

MPC app just kept giving me a error so had to queue for an hour. CBP guy was a stereotypical moody twat who seemed to be hating his life when his fingerprinting scanner thing didn’t seem to work for anyone.

No trouble finding g my way at all until I got to journal square literally 2 mins from air bnb then went out wrong exit but all is good. Brooklun banks here I come !
