Watched the firsts two episodes a while back but I blitzed through the majority of What We Do In The Shadows in iPlayer yesterday. Just about every line from Matt Berry kills me. I can’t imagine the script being written without him in mind for that character.
And on that note, did anyone watch the Dracula series on BBC?
Funny you should mention those, I thought Dracula was like WWDITS but without the jokes. It’s like it was almost funny, even though it wasn’t supposed to me, because it was so corny. And is also fuck all to do with the Bram Stoker story.
I circled it in my Christmas radio Times but haven’t got round to watching it. I keep going to put it on but the first episode is like and hour and a half long and I just can’t commit to that these days.
What? There’s loads in there that was straight from the original story, stuff taken from later interpretations, some pretty nicely done Hammer Horror vibes. Really liked what they did merging the two characters into Van Helsing. I thought it was pretty good until the last one. There is no episode three as far as I’m concerned.
I did actually watch a TV programme yesterday!
The new series of SAS Who Dares Wins has a friend of mine in, she can’t be much taller than 5ft 2, feminist, Iraqi and female, it’s gonna be interesting to see how she progresses!
She does ultra marathons for a laugh so should do really well…
I rewatched the first one and there’s much more to notice and take in on the second viewing, always a good sign. Maybe I’ll give the last epsiode another chance.
Yeah, I enjoyed it apart from the last episode. There was some choice lines throughout though. Chuckled at “I may be undead, but I’m not unreasonable”.
Ha, “Play’s a great bastard” sums him up perfectly.
Re: build’s comment about going off track from the book - with a story that’s been rinsed as heavily as Dracula, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making a drastic departure from the source material. For the most part it offered an interesting take. As much as I admired the premise, the reveal of Dracula’s existential crisis was a swing and a miss but I’d take something like that over a Zack Snyder’s Watchmen type of adaptation anyday.
Back to Claes Bang, I reckon he’d play a good Heathcliff if anyone had a pop at Wuthering Heights anytime soon.
Mark Gatiss did a good accompanying doco about the history of Dracula on bbc4, well worth a watch (I haven’t seen all three parts of the actual thing yet but I’ll get round to it sometime)
