The TV Thread

How can you watch that shit, even the adverts make me want to eat my own face off. The way that stupid woman goes “Baysiklay I’m gettin married to a total straynger”. Ugh, rage. It’s on literally every single and break too.

Oh its awful for sure but I can put it on while Im working and it passes the time.

I had to stop using ololo. The pop-ups were ridiculous. Would be interested to hear of alternatives though.

I still use Torrents here and there but mainly run off of Usenet downloading to a local NAS drive.

I used to be on some private torrent trackers but sadly am not any longer as my login usage lapsed. Would love to get back in on some of those…

Oink?

Over Christmas I really wanted to watch Die Hard but couldn’t even find an illegal way to watch it let alone a legal way.

What are the best/only(?) torrent sites now?

I was on Oink and What.CD but they are long gone. They were so good for finding super rare stuff.

I never stream outside of legit sources. I couldn’t think of anything worse than being cut off right as I was getting into things.

For torrents, I use MagnetDL and RUTracker.
Like I say; most of my stuff is Usenet/NZB (or, legit).

No-one is going to pay for all the different services and with Warner Bros saying that all their 2021 films will be released online the same day they are released in cinemas. It looks like watching a shitty online rip of a film could be a thing of the past forever, if other companies follow them.

Edit: Don’t know why that replied to you Mick, sorry.

You guys need to learn how to use kodi. Doesn’t have an iPhone app but you can use it on desktops and android tvs etc. it still uses streaming links but as it’s not a website there are no ads at all.

Find an easy set up guide, Get an add on called ‘the crew’ and you’re sorted for movies, tv and sports. All needs to be fairly mainstream stuff though- can’t find motd until after a few days etc.

https://unblocked-pw.github.io/

Been using it for about 13 years now…Ever since it was called XBMC and you had to hack an OG xBox to get it to run.

However, those dodgy add ins are no different to streaming direct from a site. It’s The Crew right now and it will be something else next year. You still have to keep up to date.

Beyond that, Kodi almost got taken offline because of these dodgy hacks. Its open source and heavily supported but those hacked repos are fucking it up and making it harder for the crews working on it to keep it going. That is another solid reason to avoid.

My setup looks like this…

UseNet to download - Torrent as backup only.
Shows managed by SickChill so I get new eps as they drop.
SabNZBD downloads and once SickChill sees the file, it processes (So, renames and moves) into a folder on my NAS drive Kodi will pick up.
Post-xBox, I had a few HTPC builds over the years but nowadays Kodi is running on my NVidia Shield, which has run flawlessly for about 5 years now.

Once all this is setup, all I do it search for a show on SickChill and subscribe to it. It grabs everything for me from that point - even previously aired eps if I want them.

What is sick is that if an episode downloads and it is flagged to have any sort of error, SickChill will pick this up and replace the file. I have not had a single show with an error for years…

This is all seems so hard, just pay to watch owt these days to save any fucking about.

Although I would like to watch the entire back catalogue of 24 Hours in Police Custody. That doesn’t seem to be available on 4od. Would Kodi have all that on ? Would be worth the ballache.

No, Kodi doesnt have anything on. Its a media player and nothing more.

Yeah, seems like a ballache for sure but it has been quite easy, to be honest.
I just like to press play and know I am not going to be fucked about.

I also ripped every skate DVD I have and those are stored on my NAS, so I get to watch all my shit that way, too. You can’t pay for that stuff…and to be honest, there’s quite a lot of films or old TV series which you just can’t stream here which I want to watch.

Im gonna have to set my own Nas up at some point. I did have a spare laptop that I ran as a home network but I had a lot of issues with it working consistently.

I’m still wary of online / streaming media, yes it’s convenient when you can afford it but I’d much rather own a physical copy of something that I can rip and enjoy as I want.
I have this recurring nightmare that media will end up being a thing you can’t own and it can be altered and edited in any way by the producer.
Like having a smart Blu-ray player that will scan if there’s been any changes to the movie before it plays meaning you only watch the edited version and not the one on the disc, adverts you can not escape watching. Apple did somehing with iTunes years ago where it replaced entire libraries of music with its own m4a DRM file format and even went as far as to rip the users own sound recordings to their lossy format and delete the original.

Honestly if the film and music industry if it gets its own way you’ll have to jump through black mirror style hoops to enjoy content.
Imagine your smart elly telling you, you can’t watch a film because your eyes werent focused on the pre-ad for more than 87% Or that you didn’t shout McDonalds 3 times in a row when asked.

This is just it - like, I want things like Alien 3 Assembly Cut…or a certain version of Predator in HD (because the early HD scans were terrible and had some weird filter over them). Stuff like that.

I use a Synology NAS which has been dope so far. Keep all my music and skate videos on there, plus the TV and films as mentioned before. I still use Netflix and Amazon Prime…and iPlayer. All through the NVidia Shield which I highly recommend looking at.

Same here I still like owning stuff on DVD/Blu Ray.
Similar to the point you make, you never know what is going to be removed. Disney pulled the Michael Jackson episode from Disney Plus, who is to say they won’t remove other episodes in future. Glad I have them all on DVD (until they stopped releasing them).

I don’t know if Cobra Kai is terrible or brilliant but I can’t stop watching it.

On this - one of the guys at work put me on his Plex server yesterday and it’s basically like having Netflix, Prime and Apple TV all in one interface.

Sick. Never got into Plex too deep…Might have to relook. Just sort of stuck with what I knew as it worked.

the cool thing is he is doing all the heavy lifting by getting all the media onto his server and we just consume - also the app is good for Android TV and iPhone so that’s the home and bus entertainment sorted.
