Feel for you man, this is insane. Wake up thinking about it in the mornings
Yep, hope you and the fam are coping ok.
Iād be getting a grab-bag readyā¦
Yeah I feel for you. My wifeās friend has run from her home in Ukraine to go and live with friends in Hungary. Just left her entire home behind and gone to start a new life.
I definitely find it easier to ignore this kind of shit when itās happening on a distant continent Iāve never been to.
Good luck Spanky hope it doesnāt come to that.
No. Be safe.
This gives me butterflies - I canāt imagine how you feel.
Hope it doesnāt come to this.
Ah fuck man , what a stark reality. God hope Putin is assassinated or a coup puts an end to it all and you can be safe .
Because under military law he will be classed as AWOL (away without leave). Military law differs to civilian law. You can only be charged under one though. The will be going mental 1 because he is AWOL, and 2 anything you do/say can have an impact on the army. Itās classed as bringing the army into disrepute. You will have seen plenty of stories in the news over the years. For example if I did something now that made the papers they would say āformer soldierā¦ā not that being a former soldier has an impact on what I did, it just creates news and then in turn makes the forces look bad.
Savage. So he canāt just say Liz Truss when he gets back then.
Totally unfair, literally doing what he was trained to do. They should be encouraging this type of thing.
They definitely shouldnāt, thereās a reason our army isnāt actively fighting. I understand civvies wanting to go over, but if an actual serving member gets caught by Russia they could take that as an act of war. Heās being an idiot.
Ok
We started a war to stop war. Nice one.
Thereās also problems with civilians going over. Would you trust someone whoās never handled a weapon before? Playing call of duty and thinking youāre a sniper is completely different to handling a real weapon. Soldiers have to regularly conduct weapon handling tests, and are expected to know things like marksmanship principles. How to react to effective enemy fire and loads more. Its brilliant that people want to help and are going to help but they have to be honest with their capabilities because they are not soldiers.
I was thinking today about how I could potentially help and I think I would possibly be most useful after the fact, when it has hopefully all finished and Russia have fucked off home they will need plenty of help rebuilding homes which would maybe be more useful than having to have some Ukrainian soldier with better things to do babysit me.
Was thinking about the rebuild too, mammoth task and the only realistic way I could help . Would takes a decade minimum to get that all back in some sort of order.
So fucked . Just unreal how the power of 1 human can cause all this instant pointless destruction of lives and homes .
Well yeah, I said this earlier on in the thread, if any of us went (apart from those with training) weād all probably be a liability in combat. But Iām sure thereās a job for everyone if need be⦠At the moment those jobs are best done from home.
But I get why people want to go.
Now Iām picturing some manchild with Doritos dust in his neck beard trying to 360 no scope a Russian tank and getting himself blown up.
AFAIK, many foreign volunteers, especially those who come from countries with no mandatory national service and are total green gills, seem to usually end up in support roles, logistics, medical, etc.
Well, if you need help of any description, let everybody here know - Go Fund Me, etc.
My partnerās family live in Helsinki and loose plans are being made to get them over here should shit really kick off. Her sister and her BIL are both nurses, so could conceivably end up serving in a field hospital somewhere while the grandparents take the grandkid to Dublin via Sweden, somehow.
