Ukraine and Russia

It’ll be another Soviet dickhead (it’ll always be another Soviet dickhead), but hopefully not an unstable one.

You got to understand this underlying theme of imperialism and aggression is part of the Russian psyche. If there’s a coup, it will probably be a military guy and they aren’t really known for their business nous.

Come to think of it the military guys aren’t really known for their military nous either.

There’s some debate on what will happen on May 9th, which is ‘Victory Day’ in Russia, where they were originally expected to celebrate their defeat of Ukraine.

Obviously that hasn’t happened and there were also rumours that Putin would formally declare war on Ukraine and begin countrywide mobilisation (men are expected to join the army and fight) on that date. But this brings a whole new level of shit to the table for him. There’s another theory that he will, using the usual mental gymnastics, somehow proclaim victory for whatever they have achieved (possibly taking Mariupol if they manage to finish it in time), as this gives him a way out and it can be moulded whichever which way they like through propaganda.

This guy is pretty good and a specialist on Russia:

Today is victory Day in Russia. So expect Putin to reveal more about plans for Ukraine.

Also, this showing signs of general mobilisation, which is a pretty big deal and sign of escalation

His nails will be ruined.

That was a letdown. Was wishfully thinking he’d declare a victory and call it a day.

On the plus side he didn’t declare it a war and go all in.

I think he’s stuck where he is. If he officially declares full blown war they’ll hate him, if he declares victory they all know it’s bullshit and they’ll hate him. Either way he’s screwed, there’s only so long you can keep doubling down.

SS20 are doing these Zelensky shirts with 100% of proceeds going to the Emergency Disasters Committee in aid of Ukraian refugees if anyone’s keen.
Seemed an appropriate place to put it.

If you can watch only one video of negotiating with Russia, this is the one. Estonian prime minister kaja kallas.

Vlad threatening “consequences” for Finland and Sweden joining NATO is very silly. Russia are clearly not equipped to react in any way beyond being openly cross about the whole thing. What’s he proposing? War with NATO when he’s lost a third of his forces ransacking Ukraine. The man is delusional.

Yeah, it’s a good job they don’t have nukes or something to use, when their leader is clearly teetering on the edge of insanity.

No more Dirty McFuckers for Russia.

Very interesting that someone actually tells it like it is on Russian state TV show.

As all commentary is Kremlin approved they may be starting to prep the russian public for one of two things: either mass mobilisation (I hope not, and the guy said that their own troops lack motivation contrary to Ukrainian troops) or failure of their ‘military operation’ as they are falling back on the ‘poor Russia: the whole world and NATO is against us’ etc
